You can be Frank and I can be Charley.
Umm... Do you not see my screen name?
I'm cool with the Mary/Gussie role division, though.
ETA: Thanks, yipper, though I've still go a few days to hold on to 30. I was told last night that I don't look a day over 26, so I'm thinking that's what I might turn next Saturday.
And I'll be Beth, if only so I can sing "Not A Day Goes By."
Do you want to hear something so ridiculous? If someone's name isn't completely blatant (ie. ILUVWICKED475 or BKLYN4EVR), then it usually doesn't register.
Fine...you can be Charley.
I'm still Gussie.
PS You're so on, Tesse!
You can pull off 26. Oil of Olay and good sleep help.

Well, I wanted my name to be IdinaCake, but I heard it was already taken.
ETA: Aw, thanks again, yipper. To paraphrase something from an episode of Coupling, "No one's ever used moisturizer in the quantities that I do!"
If I was joining today, my name would have been GardenofEspinoza!

If I joined today, I'd be BigNellyQueer.
Perhaps I would have chosen SuperPowerBottom.
Just kidding. Kinda.
OK...back to the topic.
How great of a set piece is Opening Doors?
Genius!
Hey guys, I may be pushing coughcough35coughcough, but can I still play Frank?

Sure, you're in. Your "advanced" age will bring a certain gravitas to the role.
Fine, back to the topic, per robbie's edict. I simply love this show. I know people think it has flaws, I know the time scheme blows some people's minds, but I think it's one of the most beautiful and heartbreaking shows I've ever seen. I'd kill to get to do the show someday. And it looks like we've established almost the entire core cast in this thread.
So, um, are there any Italian bisexuals in the room?
*hums a few lines of "Not A Dago's Bi," and quickly ducks*
But seriously, wouldn't that be adorable? A BWW benefit concert of Merrily featuring forum posters!! Hilarity ensues!!
Sh*t, Tesse! I sing the SAME THING!
So...I'm guest hosting Mostly Sondheim next week at the Duplex...come on down and sing some Merrily and I'll kiss you on the mouth!!!

I have, too, actually. Since I am part dago, I feel I have the right.
I, too, am half WOP.
I've not been to the Duplex in ages (bad Tesse! Bad!), but I will be certain to stop in and sing with you.
Bonus points if we can do the trio versions of "Old Friends" and/or "Not A Dago's Bi."
Robbie,
You say you wish they would cast it with a younger cast....I just did the Off-Off Broadway production that was at the Gene Frankel and at Primary Stages, and all I can say is....be VERY careful what you wish for....they tore us apart because we were in our mid 20's. Our show did have some things that could have been better, but the main arguement was that we were too young to be believeable, which I think is unfair and not neccesarily true.
And since we are casting, *I* have dibs on Gussie Carnegie! So anyone who gets in my way will feel the wrath of the Balladeer!
Cheers,
The Balladeer
I love Merrily We Roll Along with both my kidneys.
That's all.

I have a DVD of my school's version of it, I was in the ensemble. It's the newer version though, and, like I said, high school.

Did anyone see the 1985 LaJolla production directed by James Lapine?
I'm going to see it at NYU. One of my friends got a part :)
