I know... she was way too perfect for the role.
But if the show is going to go on, I hope Kristen is involved.

Am I missing something here?

I am one of the first people on this board to bemoan cutting up a show without seeing it, but I must admit that the thought of a musical based on Xanadu is the worst, most gag-inducing idea I have ever EVER heard of. I have a feeling this is going to rival Carrie asthe flop of the century. The movie is one of the biggest flaming piles of s**t that has ever been captured on celluloid. It consistantly earns a place in the "worst films of all time" lists. Why would ANYONE put one penny into this? What am I missing??????

It would be a tragedy for Kristin Bell to get caught up in this just as her career is taking off. There must be better roles out there.

Or are you guys joking about this? Am I being punked?

Nope. I'm thrilled and genuinely excited about this show. Sorry you hate the film SO MUCH, but not everyone feels the way you do. And that's ok. And if you think it's the worst idea in the world to create a stage version of Xanadu, then your imagination must be extremely limited.

Kristen Bell just made waiting for this show 10x more exciting. If it is true, my friends who love Veronica Mars already said they'd definitely go with me. We love her in Reefer and I think this is great casting!

Please understand I love Veronica Mars. I have met Kristen several times. We have friends in common. I think Enrico Colantoni is one of the best actors in the business and Kristen is THE best young actor currently working in television. Her comic timing is immaculate and she is just such an amazing combination of Carol Lombard funny/sexy and just gosh darn cute. I've made a point of visiting the set (which I am usually loathe to do, especially when you have to drive all the way down to Segall Studios in San Diego) and loved watching them work.

But Xanadu? Someone said that if that was the worst I could imagine, my imagination is limited. Allow me to assure you that is not the case. I am currently building entire new levels of hell for a musical based on Xanadu.

There are SO many other good projects to back. How did this one get the brass ring? How?

allofmylife, I agree that the movie is really, truly, deeply bad. Although, when it came out I loved it--but I was a pre-teen then. When I saw it as an adult I thought--WFT? But, I think it depends on the take. Some bad movies have made very fun musicals if they are handled with the right amount of disrespect. I don't know what the take is in this. It seems like a better idea for Off-Broadway but, again, I don't know what they do with it.

I wouldn't say Bell is anywhere near the "name" of Krakowski, who has many years of Ally McBeal propping her up, not to mention the rising popularity of 30 Rock (which, I assume, is why she's not doing the role). I thought Veronica Mars was a 99% surefire cancellation this year, too, and that the full season was only ordered as a contract stipulation.

Since I have no data to back up any claims of who is a bigger name I will just say that neither Bell nor Krakowsky's name above the title of Xanadu will ensure that it gets an audience. I think they are both wonderful performers and I would go to see either of them. Though, I would have to find out what the take on the show is--it's not really promising source material and I wouldn't pay Broadway ticket prices if they're just putting the movie up on the stage.

I think it has been made clear that the show is loosly based on the movie, and getting revamped. When I first heard on the idea of a Xanadu musical I thought it was a really crappy idea, but then I started reading up on what they were doing with the show, and just last night I watched the movie, and I think it could be interesting, and (god forbid) good.

I think this could be really interesting. I love Veronica Mars but actually didn't know Kristen had any stage experience before I saw this thread. I was disappointed when Jane Krakowski opted out, but I'd definitely want to see it with Kristen Bell in it.

With a May opening scheduled, wouldn't they need to pick a cast fairly soon? How long do most casts rehearse before previews and opening night?
