Don't be hatin'.

(As my students would say.)

I thought, visually, the show was stunning.

"I'm not entitled to an opinion?"

You are. But there must be a reason why WICKED won two of the three design awards before they were divided by play and musical.

I forgot about that. Those Tony voters were really messed up that year, don't you think?

Personally, no. AVENUE Q deserved it's awards, as did ASSASSINS and WICKED

I like the look of the show to be honest, the sets didn't actually strike me as particularly elaborate, they're just very big. To be honest, they really don't dominate the stage to the point that they take over the show like other musical sets.

I think it's good that the set didn't take over the show.

Wasn't the so called "twelve year old" being satirical? Just guessing.

Well there you have it folks! Now we have all learned that it is 150% impossible to have a civil conversation on BWW. I kind of feel like throwing in:

"Legally Blonde" & "RENT Closing?!?!?"

Just to stoke the fire a little bit more :)

Well if the songs were very forgettable, why was there a "Best Musical" Tony nomination and why is there a very strong fan base? I personally do not find the songs forgettable and I actually find the show dazzling and magnificent (in terms of set). If it weren't for the crazy fans, I think a lot more of us would be in love with the show :p

Please. These days things like that have nothing to do with the overall quality of a show. If that were true Sunday in the Park With George would be selling out every night too.

I do think that the design of the show has a lot of problems. Different parts of the creative team seemed to be on totally different wavelengths. For example, there are references to McGuire's novel in the set that are never addressed in the stage show, etc.

I personally love the set and feel it is a nice homage to the Time Dragon Clock.

I think it was suppose to be a little Ugly. It was the dark side of Oz after all.

As weak as some of the creative performance elements (book, score, lyrics) the aspects of the visual creativity are quite good.

Sweetestsiren, I think the allusions to the novel in the set/costumes are intentional. The changes made were quite drastic, and even had they not been they wouldn't have bene able to get everything from the book into the show so the various designers included them throughout.
