Gossip from Deadline: Scott Rudin will produce a spring revival of John Guare's HOUSE OF BLUE LEAVES, to star Edie Falco (as Bananas) and Ben Stiller (as Artie).
I've heard rumblings that David Cromer will direct...
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe."
-John Guare, Landscape of the Body
Ben Stiller played Ronnie in the 1986 production. My drama teacher in high school showed us the film version of it and I've been in love with the play ever since.
Please God, no!!! Not Ben Stiller as Artie. He's completely wrong for the role and there are about 20 excellent men who could play the part perfectly. Please reconsider!!
Artie is a working class guy. He works in a zoo. He's the equivalent of Archie Bunker without the prejudice.
Stanely Tucci could do it. Philip Seymour Hoffman could do it. Brad Garrett could do it. Mike O'Malley could do it. John Goodman could do it.
Plus, the comedy is farce. With Stiller we'll get Zoolander.
This is one of those shows that is fighting the memory of an excellent production. The 1986 production was almost perfect.
John Mahoney as Artie Swoosie Kurtz as Bananas Stockard Channing as Bunny (later Christine Baranski who imo, was better than Channing)
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.
I'd almost rather see Falco as Bunny opposite someone like Jessica Hecht as Bananas, but she'll be dynamite no matter which role she plays.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
I'd rather see Falco as Bunny too. Give Bananas to Martha Plimpton.

"Man, I wish I was around in '86 to have seen that cast."
It was broadcast on PBS. Ask around, lots of people videotaped it.

Aw, I liked Greenberg (the character). I think it's cause I kind of am Greenberg.
I know that Falco and Stiller are roughly the same age, but they just feel like they are from different generations to me. She seems a lot older than him.
