Along with musicals made from movies, I think this the trend nowadays. Well, up till now in Broadway and London we had ABBA, Billy Joel, Queen, Rod Stewart and The Beatles (a few years back in London). If I forget someone, feel free to correct me. I am surprised there is no Elvis musical yet, i think I read something a while ago. So who's next ? Michael Jackson ? The Rolling Stones ? I wouldn't mind a Madonna one !! Share your thoughts ! And please, don't start with the " I prefer original material" comments. We all do, but let's just have a fun thread, for the sake of argument, since with the success of Mamma Mia and Movin Out, there are going to be more, undoubtedly ! I can see the sign: "OOPS The Musical!! A musical based on the songs of Britney Spears " :)
rosie said her next musical is going to be about cyndi lauper... my thought is if TaBOO failed, what would make laupers play a hit? not only is she a phony but, shes washed up.
Cyndi Lauper will always be great because of her "Girls Just Want To Have Fun." I wouldn't call her washed up at all. ckeaton- Your idea made me laugh. Who should be in the cast?
"I'm learning to dig deep down inside and find the truth within myself and put that out. I think what we identify with in popular music more than anything else is when someone just shares a truth that we can relate to. That's what I'm searching for in my music." - Ron Bohmer
"I broke the boundaries. It wasn't cool to be in plays- especially if you were in sports & I was in both." - Ashton Kutcher
There was a musical of Elvis called simply - Elvis back in the 80s as well as Beatlemania in the 70s. There's an upcoming musical based on the songs of John Lennon in the works.

Tapestry is simply a review. I did the show a few years back and it was a lot of fun. I guess the answer to the question lies in the thread on The Beach Boys.

IDOLS OF THE KING is really a fabulous show if done well. It's about Elvis fans and includes an Elvis impersonator who does his numbers while the 2 person cast change into other crazy fans.
There is also another Elvis musical in the works that Priscilla is working on.
I'd fire you... if you weren't so g*dd*mn beautiful out there. - Blades of Glory

Well, I don't think many producers would be willing to risk money putting up a Milli Vanilli musical. I mean, a musical must have at least 20 songs :) On the other hand, I would just love a Madonna musical. She certainly has a big catalogue of well known hits from happy pop songs to great ballads, people all around the world are familiar with her music, she has a huge fan base who will support the project, and if someone could come up with a good book to incorporate these songs into the story, they could have a HUGE hit into their hands. And if they leave the raunchiest stuff out, it could even be family friendly. I am surprised that no producer has thought of it yet. I am sure she would love it, since she has proved she loves theater ! (And no bitchy remarks like "If she loves theater, why does she get on stage ?" please) :)
