In town for 2 days - too many shows to pick from. Help!
I tend to lean towards the dramas -
If you could relate either of these shows to another play, book or tv show - what would it be?
And go....
Thanks

Both are excellent, but if you can fit only one into your schedule, I'd go with Other Desert Cities.

Same here, I've seen both and enjoyed both, but if I had to choose one of these two, I'd go with Other Desert Cities.
I haven't seen them yet, but from what I hear, you can't go wrong with either.
You all have been most helpful. I think Other Desert Cities is the winner! THANKS!

Definitely OTHER DESERT CITIES!
They really are two different animals completely. I loved both but for very different reasons.
If you are in the mood for a more tense, caustic family portrait ala August Osage County then go to see Other Desert Cities. It is superb but very dark and builds in its intensity.
If you prefer something very touching, humane, compassionate and at times hysterically funny then go for Sons of the Prophet.
If I could only choose one, I would probably pick Sons of the Prophet. The cast isn't as showy, but they are exceptional.

The next opportunity I have to see shows in NYC is mid April of 2012. Does anyone have any idea or insight into whether one or both of these might extend that far into the season?
