In case you want an actually good list of the greatest Broadway musicals from people who know what they are talking about, I would recommend Broadway Musicals: The 101 Greatest Shows of All Time by Ken Bloom and Frank Vlastnik
Anything regarding shows stated by this account is an attempt to convey opinion and not fact.
Though I would recommend not getting the revised and updated version as it includes some ridiculous additions.

She has a deep hatred for musicals of any kind. She once said that ANNIE would have been good if it weren't for all the songs (I think she meant the '82 movie though, in which case the songs were the least of the problems).
Your friend sounds like my dad, Mr. Nowack. He bought tickets (sometimes even taking me) to musical theater in the 1960s because that's when theater was considered "high culture". But then he would fidget through all the musical numbers.
