Looks like we will likely get this production next season, as well as another revival of Jesus Christ Superstar:as a rock concert!

If HP does end up going to a Shubert theater, I think it would fit best in The Shubert Theater. The stage is only a few feet deeper than the Palace in London. Also, I don't think they would go with a wide stage like the Imperial or Winter Garden, my guess is that they would want a stage similar to Palace.

The Shubert is booked next year with Hello, Dolly. If they went to Toronto first and then Broadway in 2018 it's a possibility.

I wonder if they'll bring the entire British cast over or recast for Broadway with American actors. Rowling was very particular in casting the films, insisting the roles only be played by British actors. I

I agree that of the Shubert houses, the Shubert Theatre would be the best fit. Aside from stage size, the house itself is not deep, so if you're in the last row it won't feel like you're watching it from New Jersey.

For a play I think the Shubert is quite nice. I was in the balcony for Matilda and didn't feel leagues away at all. The Imperial feels like you're in another theater all together.

And I could see them decorating the front of house with the Shubert better.

For those who have been inside the Palace Theatre in London (whether it's for HP or another show)...which Bway theatre would be best suited for replicating the set? I understand that there are flying stunts/ sequences which would benefit from a high proscenium?

The Shubert had a revival of Blithe Spirit a few years back so a play like Cursed Child would work there.

I'm wondering about this play. From what I hear, it's visually fantastic with excellent performances etc. but the actual plot has upset/disappointed a lot of the big Harry Potter fans. I'm wondering if it will be as big of a success on Broadway when the script will have been out for a long time etc.

many shows undergo rewrites etc when transferring across the pond, so I wouldn't be surprised if the Broadway production differs significantly (plotwise) from the current London show (they would also most likely transfer those changes back over to London)

the show is currently still in previews correct? Pretty sure JK rowling and co have been noting how well their "plot" has been received

It is in previews but I believe it opens in a week. The thing is most people seeing the show that aren't huge fans but maybe have seen the films etc. don't seem to have an issue with the plot, but the big fans of the books etc. absolutely hate it. So I'm just thinking if the script comes out and there's backlash (from those big fans that either haven't seen the show yet or haven't read the spoilers) it might effect the future success of the show. Would they rewrite if they've already released a script of the former plot?

I mean I don't think they can just change the show. I get a few things here and there, but they won't change the entire plot that would make it a different show. Also, I think it will be popular here on Broadway. I know it's not the same, but people that read the books went to see the movies, so reading the script I don't think will do anything drastic. There are always going to people though that because they read the script they won't see the show even in west end.

I understand what you're saying but there a lot of people that loved the books but aren't going to like the script and are going to have a negative opinion on the play because of that, especially because they wont get the performances and the visual effects which are the main things that are being praised. Also, there's a big difference between paying to see a movie and a play, especially when it's in two parts, and especially with Broadway prices (most of the time more expensive than West End). I'm not saying it definitely wont be a success, it has a good chance of being, I'm just speculating. We'll see.

I guess we'll see. Although it has sold an incredible amount of tickets in the UK, I don't feel like there's comparatively much buzz about it here in either the theatre community or in our popular culture. The only thing I've really seen people talking about is the casting of Hermione. Maybe that will change when the script is out and people aren't encouraged to 'keep the secrets' anymore.

Because it hasn't nor has announced plans to open here. So what buzz would there be? What other London show has had that much buzz here? Trust, Harry Potter World recently opened in Orlando and LA and people are going nuts for it.

I'm talking about buzz in the UK. For the record, I think the reviews will be good because I doubt most theatre critics are big Harry Potter fans and will care too much about the integrity of the story.

Trust me. Harry Potter is THE Hamilton outside the theater community. The name is big enough to draw tons of tourists to see the show just like The Lion King, which I personally dislike to a great extent but still tops the chart most weeks. It'll likely be a tourist trap as capable as The Lion King.

I don't feel like anyone is really understanding what I'm saying haha.

The play itself seems to be a hit with audiences. People that have been to see it have complimented the experience, say the visual effects, performances, music etc. all add up to a great experience and that the plot is serviceable. However, I've seen a lot of people say that the show wont come across anywhere near as well as a script. This seems to be further reinforced by big Harry Potter fans who have read plot spoilers and are calling it 'fanfiction', a major disappointment, cursing JK Rowling for selling out etc. Now when the script comes out in a week's time, I'm just thinking there is probably going to be a certain amount of backlash as the only part of the play these people will be experiencing is the plot, which everyone is stating is by far the weakest aspect. Obviously people will still buy tickets and the show wont flop, I'm not expecting that at all, I am just speculating as to whether it will be as crazy as when the tickets for London first went on sale when everyone was a lot more hopeful about the story.

I'm fully aware of how big the Harry Potter name is, I live in the UK, grew up around the mania, was around the age of the characters when the first books/films got released etc. Because I know how passionate the fans are, that's why I'm speculating about potential backlash for something that many are already complaining about.

Yeah. The passionate 5% aren't the ones buying the tickets. I don't think it will play for 10 years cause what plays have? But it will work. And I love Tiffany as a director.
