Typically, how many months/weeks does a broadway show last, once producers have issued a closing notice?  What is the shortest length of time you have heard?  My apologies if this question has already been asked. Many thanks.

Shortest?  24 hours....

Longest? 6 months maybe?  I'm sure some have been longer.

The longer the run, often means the longer the posting notice.

Most common?  2 -4 weeks?  (Just a guess)

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I remember Les Mis announcing pretty early last year... Like 8 months or so.

CatsMatilda, and Les Miz come to mind as the longest periods between announcement and closing.

Cats announced a December 30, 2017 closing on June 21, 2017 (just over 6 months).

Matilda announced a January 1, 2017 closing on April 14, 2016 (about 8 and a half months).

Les Miz announced a September 4, 2016 closing on December 2, 2015 (just over 9 months).

There was the play Patti. LuPone was in called WOMAN IN CHAINS that was closed during intermission on Opening Night. Patti jokes because her character wasn't supposed to appear until Act Two.

I realize this wasn't the question, but doesn't the union still require the actors be paid at least a week's salary AFTER the closing notice goes up? That's obviously not an issue if the closing is announced 8 months in advance; but for a show that closes after one act, the actors still get paid for a full week plus one day.

On the other hand, if business suddenly picks up (as it may after the closing is announced to the public), the closing notice can be "renewed" every week until the producers actually halt performances.

Or at least that used to be the case.

There is notice and there is pay. You don't have to give notice, but you have to pay whatever is contractually required for a given actor, the minimum being one week.

Like Glory Days, The Oldest Living Confederate Widow Tells All also closed on opening night. Then of course there was the infamous Moose Murders.

Shows closing on opening night used to happen much more frequently than it seems to now.
