I'm predicting that the critics will be mixed on this production.

Moment of truth, people. Time to see if the early negative feedback was justified or not.
Even if a handful of variously-qualified newspaper reviewers and bloggers say otherwise, it doesn't mean that their opinions are any more valid or "true" than that of any poster here (particularly the more insightful and better informed posters).
And most of them (if not all) won't effect ticket sales any more than this thread does.

I was incredibly excited to see this show when I visit NYC in September.. but these photos, I feel, make the show look terrible and cheap.

Uninspired, over-choreographed, cheap looking, and a chore to sit through. Some splendid voices notwithstanding.

Those production photos are truly awful. And I say that as someone who hasn’t seen the show yet.
Poor Lindsay Mendez in that atrocious costume.
Eh, they look fine. Not horrible. Not great. Just fine. Which is basically how I feel about the whole production. Not as bad as many on here have made it out to be, but also not as good as it should have been. I'll write up a full review soon when I get the chance.
Yikes! Those sets and costumes are cheap and uninspired in comparison to Hello, Dolly! and My Fair Lady. It's a shame because Santo Loquasto can make better sets than that, he was the one who designed both the sets and costumes for Hello, Dolly! I mean, what happened here?
I'm predicting that the reviews as a whole will be very mixed with some positives with a few aspects.
Jessie Mueller was the main reason I wanted to see this. I think that photo of her and Josh Henry is super unflattering on both of them.. I'm really sad, because I was so excited when I saw the headline, then super disappointed in the results.

It's simple, Santo is only following the directions of whatever Jack O'Brien wanted him to do.

Isherwood Review: A layered ‘Carousel’ finds new depth

Pretty much a rave except for Loquasto, Pollack,
NY Daily News negative. O'Brien "hasn't discovered anything fresh or inspiring."

Hollywood Reporter is positive, calling it "meticulously curated."

Daily Beast is 85% plot summary, but it's mostly positive, I guess? It basically commends the production for not shying away from its dark themes, which isn't really a review, but okay.

Entertainment Weekly says it doesn’t work, leads are miscast, and the material doesn’t fly in this era. C!
EW.com is negative, grading it a C, and saying the show itself doesn't play well in 2018.

Deadline is positive, calling it "ravishing."

No wonder Isherwood is raving a Rudin show
TheaterMania is mixed, saying it is "both a feast for the eyes and ears, [but] you can't help but feel that the effort as a whole amounts to a nervous bunt."

I disagree with the review saying that Lindsay and Jessie are strained and struggling, vocally. The singing is exceptional in this production, which is why the cuts to the score are so disappointing.
That being said, someone should lock Jack O'Brien away for absolutely slaughtering this great work. First degree showslaughter.
