Interesting news. Of course, time will tell if this actually comes to fruition, but I hope it does! I think it could play well on tour.
I'm intrigued by them calling it a "tour," while the first stop is at Berkeley Rep, which isn't really a touring house. I wonder if it will really just be a limited series of engagements at non-profit theatres. That would be a more common model for a show like this, rather than a traditional commercial tour playing in those massive performing arts centers across the country.
If it is going to end up being more of a traditional touring model, then it would be an unusual case. Offhand, I can't think of any other Non-Profit Off-Broadway shows that went on a commercial tour, without having a commercial transfer in between. But if any show could do it, this one isn't a bad bet.
My guess is that this will tour the major non-profits around the country. I don't see this being a part of the seasons in Broadway subscription houses around the country.

Looks like the tour will be kicking off at Berkley Rep. While I personally didn't care for the show, I can still see this doing well in the major nonprofit theatres around the country. Link to Playbill article
