Where will Harry Potter go if it continues with its longsit downs? Could it be Boston or back to San Francisco and Toronto or maybe Cleveland? Cannot think of any other cities that would sustain a long sit down?
"

I doubt Toronto. They don't have a great track record of bringing back shows that weren't hits the first time around.

Universal's WICKED Film - News & Discussion Thread
 Nov 26 2024, 11:19:04 AM

I'm going to be interested in the animal coversation after part 2. I feel like, there could be some expanding done with it.

And I don't care what anyone says, the Kristin and Idina cameos are amazing. You can't change my mind.

I'm sorry, what?!

NYT: Everyone Else Is Giving a Standing Ovation. Do I Have To?
 Nov 11 2024, 12:16:00 PM

In onr of the extra interview clips from "Broadway: The American Musical" doc on PBS, Stephen Sondheim spoke about this exact thing. To paraphrase what he said: "People nowadays, feel the need to stand up and ovate something, reguardless of the quality of the show. Most of these people only see one or two shows a year, they pay for dinner, parking, hire a babysitter, etc. They want to be a part of the evening. They have put so much into this one evening. So, what do they do to

Andrew Lloyd Webber announces his next musical The Illusionist

Fine. I'll say it...

I gues Andrew couldn't get the rights to "The Prestige"

Name a song from a musical you were sorry to lose in its film version as well as one you were happy to gain.
 Oct 25 2024, 08:53:02 AM

Not really answering the question, but I want to point out my thoughts

Beauty and the Beast: holds such a special place in my heart, but I'm not crazy about the new songs for the 2017. The thing with Evermore, is that I feel like it bring the film to a screeching hault. It's too late in the story to introduce this new expansive feeling. I know The Mob Song is techically a new song (which comes after Evermore), but it is that scene that begins (what I call) the final minutes. Sh

What happens to the legacy of old shows?
 Oct 11 2024, 11:31:54 AM

It's all cyclical, isn't it? Like, I think of the first "Broadway; The Golden Age" documentary, and think about those actors taking about Laurette Taylor in The Glass Menagerie. What will the next generation's be?

Stage adaptation of Jerry Herman’s MRS. SANTA CLAUS to premiere at Goodspeed in 2025!
 Oct 10 2024, 02:37:18 PM

I'll be interested in the score, because I listen to it every year, and love it all.

With Mr. Herman no longer with us, I will be interested if/how the flesh out the score. I don't assume Mrs. Santa Claus is going to belt out Before the Parade Passes By, or A Little More Mascara.

Also, who has the warmth of Angela Lansbury to play her?

Smallest Roles to Be Nominated for Tony Awards
 Sep 16 2024, 02:28:26 PM

VotePeron said: "I remember Elizabeth A Davis as Reza in ONCE getting nominated for a role with very little independent stage-time was a curve ball."

I remember when the nomination came, it was kind of a symbolic nomination for the whole cast/ensemble, with Davis getting the name recognition. The same with Jenn Collela in Come From Away (to a lesser extent).

Emma Rice's North By Northwest

There was a stage adaptation of North by Northwest already. It premiered in Australia, and also played the UK and Toronto.

A.R.T. Gatsby to London
 Aug 8 2024, 11:38:31 AM

I wonder if it would stay at a "regional" theatre like the Barbican or something like that. I don't know if a commercial run is aimed before Broadway.

Liza Minnelli Will Release Her Memoir in 2026
 Aug 8 2024, 11:37:08 AM

I feel like what is happened, is that Liza and Feinstein have talked, he has written down many of the stories she's told, and asked her questions about her life. Then the third author is coming to compile, and string everything along, and tada! We have a memoir! I feel like it will be like Chita's. Nothing we haven't heard before, or talking bad about anyone. A fun read for her fans, which will be worth the $40/$50 cover price.

Can we survive with 3 icons (Barbra, Che

ALW has completed his next musical

I wonder if ALW would ever try again at adapting "The Master and Margarita". It was either that or Phantom.

Richard Linklater developing a film about Richard Rodgers & Lorenz Hart, BLUE MOON

This is great subject matter for a film with two incredibly complicated, depressedmen at the center of this partnership.

The MGM musical WORDS & MUSIC is a very loose adaptation of the Rodgers & Hart partnership. So this one will definitely be more factual!
"

I feel like Rodgers and Hammerstein have more of a "known" name, but I feel like, there isn't much of a story or drama there. With Larry Hart, there was his drinking, mental health, etc.

Dame Judi : Trigger Warnings
 May 15 2024, 08:28:29 AM

I agree with Judi Dench.

I *also* agree however, withe others when i say that I cannot stand gunshots in plays. It seems like common practise for the last many numbers of years for strobe lights and gunshots to be included.

PS. I need to thank everyone who contributes to the thread on here about the gunshots in shows.

How do shows assign dressing rooms?
 Apr 11 2024, 06:12:32 PM

If you want a fun 4:30 mins, there was a video series on Broadway.com following Beth Level into Mamma Mia, and the below video shows her picking her dressing room. She has her choice of 2 at the Winter Garden, with one being *I believe* the current Donna's, and then the actress playing Sophie. So, I guess if she picked that one, she would be making the Sophie move.
