What are some awful, terrible songs from classic, amazing, beloved musicals. I thought this would be interesting. The first ones that come to mind for me are:

You Won't be an Orphan for Long - ANNIE
Motherhood March - HELLO, DOLLY!
Henry Street - FUNNY GIRL
My Name - OLIVER!
Meeksite - CABARET

Little People from Les Miz

My ears!

"During this performance, please feel free to let your cell phones and pagers ring willy-nilly. However, do remember that there are heavily-armed knights on stage and you might well be dragged up and impaled." (Pre-curtain announcement at the new Broadway musical Monty Python's Spamalot)

I thought about Little People....the melody and usually the kid singing is IS terrible - but I love the lyrics. I'm also torn with "Carefully Taught" from SOUTH PACIFIC. Great message and lyrics, terrible melody.

I think the music from Jekyll and Hyde is pretty bad.

Right, but that's not what I'm talking about. TOMORROW drives people nuts because everyone knows it. EVERYONE knows the lyrics. And why? Because it's a great song with great lyrics. If that song came out today, people would love it. Don't confuse classic with terrible!

I don't believe this should be considered a "classic"! I dislike the song itself, and have never heard a good version of it.

I realize what you mean, though, about "bad" songs.

Guess I'll add "Into the Woods" as one of those horrors (who would sing this one, anyhow?).

Stupid "Clambake" from pro-spousal abuse "Carousel."
"Ribbons Down my Back" is SCARY!!!
"Castle on a Cloud" bugs the livin' poop outta me. "Little People" is my LOVE!
"My Mother's Wedding Day" from "Brigadoon," although fun, does little besides show us that Meg is a hussy, but we knew that already.
"We Have All Been Blind's" melody and harmonizing is horrid in "POTO."

Clambake - Carousel (nauseating)
Point of No Return - Phantom of the Opera
Doin' What Comes Nat'rally - Annie Get Your Gun (ew)
I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face - My Fair Lady (the most dull and anticlimactic 11 o'clock number ever written)

"All I Need Is The Girl" - GYPSY

"Noah, someday we'll talk again. But there's things we'll never say. That sorrow deep inside you. It inside me, too. And it never go away. You be okay. You'll learn how to lose things..."

Some of these songs seem to me to be throwaway songs, one's not crucial to the plot. Not horrible, just not completely necessary or plot driven.

I was in a production of Carousel early in my career and I really liked singing the "Clambake" song. It certainly beat singing, "June is Bustin' Out All Over".

Not classic, but since it's going to get a mention EVENTUALLY:
90% of Wicked

That must mean you feel Wicked is "amazing".

Oh dear God- I've listened to it a bunch, and I think I can only stand four songs now.
