With 2 shows (Musicals of Musicals and A Mother, A Daughter and a Gun) already announcing closure and Great Trailerpark Musical rumoured to be a limited engagement... could The Opposite of Sex arrive next?
Don't forget what Broadway.com said!:
"—The Opposite of Sex, based on the 1998 film of the same name, tried out at San Francisco's Magic Theatre last fall in preparation for what was expected to be a Broadway bow. Now the production, being presented by Barry and Fran Weissler, is aiming a little lower and is eyeing a fall berth at Dodger Stages. The show, which centers on a 16-year-old tart (played by Kerry Butler out-of-town) who wrecks the life of her gay half-brother, features music and lyrics by Douglas J. Cohen and a book by Robert Jess Roth and Cohen based on Don Roos' screenplay."
The new dodger stages complex is so cold and sterile, I don't think anything goes nicely into it. BUt it would be nice to get a glimpse of opposit of sex this side of the mississippi.
maybe this will be Trailer Park's replacement? Assuming trailer park will close if there's no jump in ticket sales. Or is that just completely jumping the gun and being too presumptious. I'd just really like this show to get a chance at NY, or just anywhere again sometime soon. It got pretty fabulous reviews, no?
I would be extrememly happy if this went to Dodger Stages. I loved the show in SF, Kerry Butler was phenomenal in the lead. She plays a remarkably convincing 16-year-old.
all the best to the show, I hope it hits the stage again.
