I am listening to the OBCR of this, and man, i forgot how good the show is. Every song is a showstopper. Truly a great show.
P.S. If this hadn't opened the same year as The Producers, it would definently have won Best Musical.

I agree. I actually think it's a much better show than The Producers (which I also love). If "Producers" hadn't absolutely dominated the Tonys that year perhaps it would have had a longer run. It certainly deserved one. GREAT SHOW!
I personally think that the Theatre Wing should devide music and lyrics into two categories. Think of all of the wasted Tony Award losers for score. Mel Brooks could have won lyrics. Yazbek could have won music. Same thing last year, only vise-versa- Guettel for music, Yazbek for lyrics.
IMO, it's one of the few perfect musicals out there. And yeah, the fact that "The Producers" beat it to the best score Tony is a complete joke.

I think both shows are rock solid and it sucks that it didn't open a year earlier.
Well, being that it opened 5 years ago, you'll have to wait 10 years. Personally, I'd rather have another Yazbek show along with DRS insted of a revival of Monty.
"The Producers" would have won EVERYTHING it possibly could. If music and lyrics were split, I think it still would have won both. It was one of those years where, with all the buzz the show had and the incredible numbers it was putting up, no one was going to deny an award. I don't think it deserved several it got, but I knew it was going to win. "The Full Monty" was an amazing show that hit during the wrong season. In any "normal" season, it would have taken home at least 3-4 awards.

The show has a very strong regional theatre following. It has been done all over the place the past year which is great.
I am surprised the number of people here who think FULL MONTY has a great score. I enjoyed the show in the theatre but listening to the OCR I realized that the score was the least of its accomplishments. As for the Tony voting, if I were a Wing member I would have voted for PRODUCERS over MONTY. And even had it won the Tony I doubt MONTY would have run that much longer. It's just not a mega-hit calibre show. Enjoyable and quite clever, but that's all.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
