It was made famous by Bert Williams. If you search for his recordings you'll find it.

You can download an MP3 of the song at amazon.com for .99 cents. The download is sung by Max Morath.

Uh oh. I'm starting to think that this isn't the song you're thinking of?

I think it is a version of the song, but probably not the version they're looking for. Something more akin to this perhaps?

This song, and Bert Williams' performance of it, was the inspiration for "Mister Cellophane" from CHICAGO.

Avon Long also performed it in Bubbling Brown Sugar.

WAYYYY back when (early 60s) Carol Burnett included it on one of her solo LPs. I THINK the album has been transferred to CD with another of Carol's solo albums. IMO, it's not a very good rendition -- and I've been a Carol Burnett fan for years.

There is a wonderful recording of it on Dorothy Loudon's Saloon cd.

I believe it ends the "Outside Looking In" section, right after "Shortnin' Bread" on the original cast recording.
