Maisie Williams was not nominated for her brilliant work as Arya Stark on GAME OF THRONES, while Maggie Smith's check-cashing turn on that f*cking ABBEY thing continues to get recognition.
Whatever. It'll all go to BREAKING BAD anyway.
I am amazed that BB is still eligible...it seems to have left the air more than a year ago.
I'm also confused about these categories. I would assume that American Horror Story is in the miniseries category because it's an anthology series. Well, then, why is True Detective, which will also feature a new storyline and characters each season, nominated for Best Drama Series? For that matter, Treme is now considered a miniseries? Anyway...
So, if Jim Parsons, a perennial favorite, won for both Big Bang Theory and The Normal Heart, would he be the first actor to win two Emmys in one night?
And if Laverne Cox were to win for Orange is the New Black, would she be the first transgender actor or actress to win an Emmy? Heck, is she the first to be nominated?
BTW, noticed that none of Seth MacFarlane's animated shows were nominated. They even went so far as to nominate some new version of the Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles in place of Family Guy or American Dad. Ouch. (Edit: Also, a snub for The Simpsons.)

I also asked if Cox was the first trans actor to be nom'd...I'd say so.
Parsons was great in The Normal Heart, but it's Bohmer's to lose.
Was Penny Dreadful not eligible yet?
Yeah, Doodle, it seems that Cox is the first transgender nominee: http://www.buzzfeed.com/skarlan/laverne-cox-is-the-first-transgender-actress-to-be-nominated. Man, from becoming the semi-official spokesperson for the trans community on daytime talk shows, to the cover of Time, I can't imagine the amount of pressure Cox feels. I hope she has the opportunity to soak this all in and enjoy it.
I hope House of Cards isn't ignored because it hasn't been on for so long.

I believe shows choose which category they want to be nominated in, so True Detective could have been submitted for mini-series if it wanted. The is the first year Shameless was nominated as a comedy.
HBO didn't want True Detective and The Normal Heart competing in the same categories so they submitted the former as a Drama Series. It's all about playing the game.
Jim Parsons would be at least the second actor to win 2 Emmys in one night - Stockard Channing did it in 2002 for The West Wing and The Matthew Shepard Story.
Ah, that makes sense. Thanks for the background on the category thing, Phyllis and Theatreguy.
BTW, MusicalJen and I are SHOCKED at the terrible decision of the the Academy not to nominate Carrie Underwood, one of our finest graduate performers, for her magnificent performance as newscaster Maria Von Trapp.

netfeilx should not have any emmy non it should be just tv not intent and what about once upon a time that should get some awards it is the best show on tv.
I kind of agree about netflix, bryan. I love those shows but... is it TV?

Well, then HBO shouldn't get nominated, either. They aren't tv, either!
But they're made for television, unlike Netflix. I guess.

HBO has tried to remake a name for itself as TV.

The fact that Kerry Washington and Michelle Dockery made it back into Best Actress in a Drama Series when Elisabeth Moss, who had her best work on Mad Men since 2010, was left out. What also makes little sense is how Christina Hendricks, whom I adore on Mad Men, and should have already won at least once, was nominated when she was given very little if anything to do this past mini-season.
The Emmy nominations are always a mixed bag. So many surprises.
PS: Who the hell even knew Ricky Gervais had a show on Netflix?

We'll always have Julie to thank for "egregiously."
My thoughts:
Ellen Burstyn: WTF???
YAY, Lizzy Caplan!
YAY, COSMOS!
YAY, Seth MacFarlane for voices.
Wow, The Normal Heart!
Jim Parsons could easily win two Emmys, but Matt Bomer could take it.
Haha; Matt LeBlanc playing Matt LeBlanc.
No NPH for the HIMYM finale? He was the highlight of the whole episode for me.
Pleasantly surprised by all the love for Bonnie and Clyde.
Wished Once Upon a Time, especially Lana Parrilla, got more noms.
Kinda surprised by the love for SOM Live, but wish the acting got more noms.
AWESOME for the Tony Awards!!!!!!!!!
Laughed out loud for Sofia the First: The Floating Palace.
The Emmys love Burstyn. The woman is disgustingly wonderful, but that movie was pure trash. This is not the first nomination she gained based on her name only. And her win last year was another example of rubber stamping.

I don't get what The Simpsons is considered.

I thought of her when I used it!
Thrilled for all the love for Orange is the New Black! That show is packed with so many talented actresses, so it's nice to see it recognized despite the fact that it isn't a major network or cable show.
I know Matt Bomer will probably take it, but I really hope Jim Parsons wins for The Normal Heart. Bomer did a decent job, but I thought Parsons was the heart of the entire movie and gave a beautiful performance.
