No one is being snubbed. If you name your five favorites of something, you're not snubbing your sixth favorite. If they increased the number of nominees, they'd just end up with more losers, so what difference does it make? I think five is a nice, satisfying number. I wish they'd go back to five Best Picture nominees. It seems less special now.

It is sort of like the dh in baseball. The AL has it but the NL does not. Either 10 all around or 5 all around.

Just watched Room. What a downer! I haven't seen one uplifting film this year. Anyway, kid steals the show but it's slow moving and as I said, downer.

Jane, have you seen Brooklyn? I found it ultimately charming, though it has its "downer" moments. And I really loved Bridge of Spies.

Do not think Revenant is Leo's best work. Not sure he deserves it this year but that is life.

Saw Bridge Of Spies this week and also highly recommend. Jane, it comes out on redbox next week.

Last night I stepped out to watch The Big Short at my local movie house. For some reason, I nodded off at least 3 times. From what I recall it wasn't a bad flick but I did find Steve Carell's whiny voice grating. I'll download it for home viewing sometime soon.

Just watched SPOTLIGHT. Really enjoyed it, though found it hard to follow at times with all the different names, etc. I think it's a solid movie, if a little light on "Oscar worthy" dramatics. But I thought Michael Keen gave a really killer performance, as did Ruffalo.
