Like they ALL aren't guilty of something.

I'm sure we've all read the email-chain that went around listing who is guilty of drinking and driving, owes child support, or broke any number of laws including legal but questionable items based upon your morals and beliefs.

Weiner got caught. He did not break a law. Merely humiliated himself. Plus - he is human.

Is Weiner's possible accusation of being a pervert worse than being guilty of one of the 7 deadly sins (gluttony) being practiced by a politician in a neighboring state?

Shouldn't we be more insulted and/or concerned by the politicians who are guilty of breaking a genuine law?

Hmm, as wacky as this many sound, I think what Wiener did was worse than what Sanford did. Extramarital affairs are commonplace, the majority of married people have them. How many public officials tweet pictures of their bulges? The affairs are ubiquitous but the wiener pics are infantile.

I'm very interested to see if Wiener gets elected.

Not from New York, so it doesn't really affect me. But, I guess I just question it because he resigned from his original position when the news leaked out.

On the taxpayers dime. I don't think Wiener's bulge tweeting cost anyone anything.
I think there are better candidates though so I probably wouldn't vote for him anyway.

It didn't cost anything, but that isn't what bothers me. It's what that says about his character and judgment and the stupidity of it.

When the hormones are raging it always seems like a great idea.

They are all human and are no less prone to stupidity, lies, cheating...they just want the "get out of jail card" (if you play Monopoly) or the "immunity idol" (if you watch Survivor).

They all play the game and then hang their puppy dog heads, bat their eyes and beg for forgiveness...has happened tons of times. It will continue to happen more because the politicians know that American forget or feel compelled to feel sorry for them because they buy the line of crap.

So...pick the Weiner and know the crime or pick a sparkly new candidate and wait to find out what skeleton lurks in their closet.

Going for Weiner just seems so exciting cause every news story will be chock full of double entendres.

I know so many people that have their bulges posted all over the place via Scruff, Grindr etc that I fail to see what the big deal is.

He did what he did, and it only affected his private life, it was all between consenting adults. It didn't affect his job or how well he did it. And, unlike Mark Sanford, he didn't illegally use taxpayer money to fund a trip abroad to f*ck his girlfriend, and lie to his constituents about the whole thing.

Can't say if I'd vote for Weiner or not.

I can't believe that in a year that both Sanford and Weiner resurface, that Wiener seems to be getting the lion's share of the scrutiny.




This meme was floating around a few weeks ago and it really bugged me. Without even getting into the way it salaciously uses the words "young girls" to talk adult women Weiner sent his pics to, but to conflate all three of these men confounds me (especially when the third one had an arrest record for domestic abuse, which seems to sort of implicitly say that tweeting a pic of your junk to someone is akin to beating your wife). I just fail to see how Weiner and Sanford are in the same league.

I guess what Weiner did was dumb like everyone is saying, but it doesn't even come close to the levels of duplicity and calculation Mark Sanford's scandal had. And it's not about him cheating on his wife, like Erik and a couple others have noted. It's about the fleeing the country on the taxpayer's dime while in office and lying about where he went. Not to mention Sanford is of a party and ideology that that absolutely abhors any kind of sexual indiscretion. His side is the one who gets the set the rules for what is and isn't sexually acceptable, so I think it's a lot worse when someone like him doesn't toe the party line. Hell, Sanford's party Sanford himself voted to impeach Bill Clinton for getting an extramarital bj and lying about it.
