If there's one thing we cam say it's that this election year has been unpredictable and changes directions weekly.
I loathe Obama, and still won't support him. His "declaring" himself the winner before the race is over is just the sort of thing I'd expect from him.
We're now entering a 2 week period where Hillary is going to sweep 2 states. The supes will take notice. And they are so absurdly fickle anyway, I'm willing to bet a lot of them flip back to her.
Half the party seems to want her as passionately as the Obamaniacs want him.
So, the question is: who does the party alienate?
And despite all the unity talk, it's not the reality. Every democrat I talk to will vote McCain over Obama. McCain is a liberal republican, and centrists have no issue with voting GOP as long as it's not a right winger. This is what I've gathered from my conversations with fellow dems here in VA.
You can cry all you want about "priorities being messed up" if dems don't vote for the party's nominee, but it's their vote and this is what they're feeling right now.

"His "declaring" himself the winner before the race is over is just the sort of thing I'd expect from him."
When did Obama declare himself the winner? As for Virginia, Obama polls better there vs McCain than Clinton.

And we've seen how accurate the polls have been. Like I said, this is what I've gotten for the many fellow dems I've had conversations with.

"Every democrat I talk to will vote McCain over Obama."
funny, here it's just the opposite.....although I would never generalize and say every.......but most here will vote the party......me included.
I want the repigs OUT of the White House

I wasn't generalizing.
Allow me to repeat for the third time:
every democrat I TALK TO will vote for McCain over Obama.

Every gay Democrat I have spoken to says they will either vote McCaine or not vote. McCaine is turned away a lot of gay people. I have actually tried to convince them that Obama is better than McCaine. Still, I HAVE BIG ISSUES with Obama I doubt I'll get past come November.
I say we draft Al Gore and every Democrat comes out a winner and will be happy!

By playing the race card, she has shown herself unfit to lead your country.
If you are true Democrats, you should be giving Obama 100% support, not the kind
of faint-hearted semi-support some of you have shown. He is the leader, and once his ambitious and unscrupulous rival is out of the way, 'ordinary, hard-working Americans', both black and white will vote for him. Just believe!

WestEndAndy, your attitude is whats killing the party. Hillary is an easy target, but your attitude is why I am debating on voting for Obama and why he will loose in Nov.

Posted: 5/13/08 at 11:23amWhile we're on the latest ABC Washington Post Poll -- and I'd count myself in that 64% -- also take note: That same polls ays Obama beats McCain today, 51% - 44%. He's added 5 points in a week.

faint-hearted semi-support some of you have shown.
A)A vote is a vote regardless of the level of support one shows, and that's all that matters.
B)Here in America we enjoy being able to debate and make up our own minds about our candidates.
But thanks for the input.

It's not just Obama who underperforms with white working-class voters--Al Gore and John Kerry also did poorly with them, particularly men.
Hillary was the first Democratic candidate in a long time to do WELL with them.
And how dare you impugn my being a "true Democrat," Andy! I was a Democrat and a liberal--and a red-diaper leftie!--before you were born or learned how to insult people.
I'm just tired of Democrats losing. I want to WIN this time--the Congress AND the White House.

"I loathe Obama, and still won't support him. His "declaring" himself the winner before the race is over is just the sort of thing I'd expect from him."
He's done no such thing; in fact, just the opposite.
And I'm sorry, but if Hillary supporters are willing to vote for McCain over Obama, it amounts to nothing more than pure racism. If you're against the war continuing indefinitely, how could you vote for McCain? If you’re in favor of a woman's right to choose, how could you vote for McCain? If you’re for universal health care, how could you vote for McCain? Hillary and Obama's views on these and most other issues are very close. If you're willing to vote for someone who is diametrically opposed to everything you believe in just so a black man isn’t elected President, then you're a racist. And an idiot.

Race is not the issue. Because I think Hillary would be a better president than Obama you think I am racist?
Obama needs to talk to his supporters. He is clearly the nominee and he needs the Clinton supporters more than the other way around. People are turning against him out of spite, not the man and his vision of uniting the party.
What I don;t get is Obama has won the nomination so why are his followers STILL ANGRY AND COCKY?

Posted: 5/13/08 at 12:40pmLuscious - I have to disagree. While racism is a concern in this country and this election, I do not believe any of the posters here are racists. And while I do believe those who claim they will vote for McCain are sincere, I also believe those opinions may change over time. I watch a focus group of women on CNN last night, and they were very bitter about Clinton losing. They feel she is the better candidate, and the older ones also felt that if she is not elected this year, they might never see a woman president. Only about half said they'd vote for Obama, but based on their comments and body language, I'd say that may have been anger and frustration speaking rather than antipathy against Obama. I hope and expect that they will come around to him over the next few months.

Most ignorant and unfounded post of the day.
That is such an absurd and baseless contention.
It's the old "if you don't vote for a black man, you're racist!"
With supporters like you, who needs the GOP? You'll give the election to McCain for them.

PJ, I know how much the Democrats mean to you. I read this message board. And I
admired the way you declared your support for Obama so promptly. Then you seemed
to waver and you started saying you didn't think he could beat McCain.
I understand the problem you face. The party is split down the middle. However, a candidate has to be found and it looks overwhelmingly as if it is not going to be Mrs Clinton. I also think that Senator Obama will win decisively in November and will be a great president.

I honestly don't think that most of Hillary's supporters are racists. However, they're really coming off as sore losers more than anything else. If the majority of the Democratic portion of the electorate rejects Hillary then so be it. If/when she exits, she can say she left it all out there on the field.
Supporting Obama has been an emotional rollercoaster ride for many of us as well. Hillary has clearly made him a better ge candidate by putting him through the initial paces.
You win some; you lose some.

I agree as well. I think Obama would be a very good President. I just think Hillary would be better and has a better chance. Thats our only difference and its a minor one.
I have not encountered one Hillary supporter I would label a sore loser. Pal Joey and Jrby for example have shown nothing but class and loyalty towards the party. Obama and Hillary need to make peace publicly in order for their to be peace among the party. I still believe Obama can benefit greatly by having Hillary (and her supporters)on his side. He is a fool if he thinks he can just walk away from her and her followers.

"Race is not the issue. Because I think Hillary would be a better president than Obama you think I am racist?"
No. That's not what I said. Because you would vote for McCain over Obama, when Obama and Hillary's ideologies are almost identical... that's what makes you racist. Either that or you don't vote based on the issues. Which is it?
"Most ignorant and unfounded post of the day."
I thought you held that title, tazber.
"That is such an absurd and baseless contention."
"It's the old "if you don't vote for a black man, you're racist!"
YOU'RE NOT LISTENING (or reading)!
What I said is... "If you're willing to vote for someone WHO IS DIAMETRICALLY OPPOSED TO EVERYTHING YOU BELIEVE IN just so a black man isn’t elected president, then you're a racist. And an idiot." And I stand by that statement. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck and looks like a duck... IT'S A DUCK.
And you didn't answer the questions that I posed in my previous post.
If you're against the war continuing indefinitely, how could you vote for McCain? If you’re in favor of a woman's right to choose, how could you vote for McCain? If you’re for universal health care, how could you vote for McCain?
