Posted: 10/1/09 at 2:32amPhyllis, I'm with you. I love Cox, I loved her in FRIENDS, she was probably my favorite "friend." And like you said, the show is just not funny, I can't get into it. I think it also has incredibly predictable humor which is always a turn off.

Posted: 10/3/09 at 4:34amIt's still a crappy show. And I've lost respect for Courteney if she stars in a show that uses that stupid and offensive term in its title.

Posted: 10/3/09 at 7:34amWell I don't dislike C.C., but I certainly don't think she's that good of an actress. And from the review someone posted here before (I have no idea where the thread is?), I really don't want to watch a show where she's giving some guy a b.j. and her ex husband and KID walk in on it. That's just uncomfortable.

Now wasnt it Namo that said show would flop and ABC would be bracing themselves?
And stockard

Have you missed the point of the show? Its a single 40 something woman rediscovering herself, its a comedy, of course stuff like that was going to happen.

It's just another show about a woman written by men who vent their resentment towards women. The term cougar is offensive--it suggests prowling, rapacious, etc., as if the slang dictionary needed another disparaging word for anything having to do with women. And what woman, of any age, wouldn't prefer a younger dude? Maybe not a college-aged woman, but...
This show needs to be written by women, preferably divorced ones. Not men who project their bizarre notions onto the main character as if they know anything about her or what divorce does to people.

It's this sort of thing that makes you, in my eyes, a total dorkus majorcus. What I said was if the show continued to lose a million viewers if left on the schedule after Modern Family it would be a downhill slide to cancellation. These things rarely reverse themselves.
But, you know, good for Cox and the folks who have created a show to reinforce negative self-esteem of women over 20. And the queens who love that sort of thing.

Namo you said ABC would be worried/not happy, something along those lines
Oddly enough i can't find that comment on here to copy and paste any more Hmmmm strange.

why is it when you don't like something and other people do you seem to put that down large amounts of people. Could it not just be that YOU don't like it and thats your oponion, rather than insulting queens all the time (which you seem to do a lot which is ironic because *holds up mirror*)
And the fact that you just used the words 'dorkus majorcus' at your age is enough to stop this argument dead lol

My problem with Cougar Town is that it represents another two steps forward-three steps back for women. CC's character tells us that it's OK to be over a certain age and back out in the market. And it is.
The problem is that CC doesn't represent the typical 40-something divorcee who, at least for the next handful of years will be able to entice younger men on a superficial or purely physical level. The majority of middle-aged women finding themselves suddenly single again don't have CC's glamour factor in their corner.
It's not empowering. It's just something else with the take-away message that the average middle-aged woman is inadequate. It's also trying to pitch that men and women are equal because, see, now women are interested in younger men, too.

Posted: 10/3/09 at 2:26pmGuys, this is a comedy, don't take anything too seriously about it. It's just fun, nothing to think about. It's not a good show or anything that intends to make a difference in people's lives, it's just a fun time! That's it, don't read into it.

Posted: 10/3/09 at 2:30pmI don't take it seriously nor read anything into it. I tuned in, saw it, and thought it sucked. Not funny. Simple as that.
#93courteney cox in cougar town
Posted: 10/3/09 at 2:47pmYeah. I understand what the concept of the show is. I just don't see anything funny about a kid walking in on his mom giving some guy a bj. It's tacky and tasteless.
#94courteney cox in cougar town
Posted: 10/3/09 at 2:54pmI agree Stockard. I was trying to keep an open mind about the whole concept (and I usually really like Cox). But I really thought that was tacky and unnecessary - to try to pass that off as funny left a bad taste in my mouth (pun intended).

You said you haven't even seen the show. So you can't rely on what people tell you on here. Go see it, and then make up your own mind.

My point is that even if it is mindless fluff, it still serves to perpetuate the icon of the cougar.
That's part of my problem with Glee, as well. The women on that show are all horrible. The wife, the Cheerio coach.
I don't have an especially politically correct sense of humor, but I do believe that embracing stereo-types, even if it is just to laugh at them, becomes the reality for a lot of people. Just sayin'.

#99courteney cox in cougar town
Posted: 10/3/09 at 5:22pmI agree with that too, danmag. Why do we have to have such a negative label put on an older woman dating a younger guy anyway.
