Maybe it will come up and that was just laying down the foundation.
There's always the chance that they decided to forgo the expected "macho father freaks out at his son's obvious effeminate behavior" stroyline. If anything, I think they're building up to a storyline where he's perfectly okay with it and his Mom is the one with a problem with it. She visually tenses and flinches whenever he talks about fashion or showtunes and she's had several lines of dialogue where she asks him to tone down his flamboyant behavior because she's afraid of what others will think.
"I just fell in love with daniel"
"Me too"
"What?"
"What?"
"Huh?"
"Nothing...You look pretty..."
Mark is by far my favorite with each progressive episode...priceless.
I love the show.
The Phantom mask scene was priceless, but I too wanted more of the father reacting to his "gay" son, but they all seem to be in so much denial, it makes it more real and funny for me. I'm sure that's only the beginning of that story line.
The Turkey cam was genius, whether or not it was a promo for Martha. The point was to show us the Wilhemena we think we know and the extent she will go to try and please her daughter. That payoff was the scene at the table with the two of them.
The "Dreamgirls" dress sequence was hilarious, but I was afraid, at first, that they would start making out. Thank god the show is allowing the gay characters to stay gay and not just be "curious" to appeal to a straight audience.
Soo smart, funny and delightful. With a dash of mystery. Perfect show, great casting and just plain fun!
You can watch it with your parents, grandparents, kids, and co-workers. Pretty much covers the gambut of the human race. Maybe that's why the foreign versions have become the most watched show in the history of television. We're just late being invited to the Ugly Betty party!
Cheers!
I love the show!! The Phantom of the Opera/cup joke was hysterical! And Martha Stewart? Ok that part was just weird! lol
I just spent the whole vacation watching Ugly Betty and now I'm caught up. How come there isn't an active thread on this hilarious and sweet show??
A few things - so what did you guys think of how Santos exited the show? I also thought he'd wind up being cool with Justin's "gay-ness" so I'm disappointed that the writers went down the predictable road. Still, it gave Hilda and Daniel an opportunity to acknowledge Justin's talents and not only "tolerate" them, but embrace them.
I was a bit confused at the point of this whole flashback episode, but I think it was one of the first episodes filmed and for some reason they saved it for later. Vanessa Williams did an interview a couple of months ago where she mentions the Oshi storyline and that it was something like the fourth episode filmed, so it wasn't originally meant to be a flashback ep. Which makes sense, because the bookend scenes with Christina and Betty referencing her leaving for NYW weren't foreshadowed at all in the ep, so why else would they use it now?
It also seems like they cut out a lot of the hilarity with Oshi, according to Vanessa's interview, probably to accomodate the bookend scenes.
I'm also confused about Walter and Betty's get-back-together timeline. So he'd already given her the batteries, but had he already "serendated" her with B&TB?

Ya this Oshi episode confused me since it seemed like Betty got over the Gina and Walter thing.
That makes sense, taboo. Any predictions on how Betty comes back to Mode? I've found some vague spoilers that I'll mention below.
A few episodes from now, some sort of Meade scandal (probably having to do with Fey's death) surfaces and the media has a field day with it. Bradford asks Daniel whether he trusts him, and Daniel says he wants to, but now he's suspicious. Wilhemina takes over Mode and starts firing people left and right until Daniel gets an injunction. Oh, and Justin gets into a fight at school, which Hilda fears has to do with him wanting to audition to be a school twirler, but actually HE beat some OTHER kid up because the kid called Hilda a slut.
Woohoo!
There are two new characters, Claire and Alexis, coming out in a couple of weeks...maybe Rebecca is one of them?
Gah, I didn't know Michael Urie was on! What do you mean he scored a home run? What happened? (It's not on the-site-to-not-be-named.)

I was wondering if they only filmed a few episodes to see how the public would like it. Now that it has become a hit, they are scrambling to finish out the season. Because the last regular episode was the Christmas party, yet this new episode doesn't indicate Christmas/New Year or snow at all.
I believe the original 13 episode order will be finished airing next week, with the rest of the full-season order rolling out with the the 18 January episode, beginning the new story arc. Like I said earlier, I'm sure the network wanted to save an episode to transition new viewers (who might have caught one of the two marathons this past weekend) or tuning in with the new ad campaign, a chance to "catch up" before the new story arc begins.
Tiff, Michael Urie was just spot on during his segment. His parents were in the audience, so they talked about spanking (mentioned in Hot Topics), he managed to reference the Danny DeVito "Limoncello" incident, they brought out his childhood pics, he talked about his school band and speech club days, he told a story about flashing one of his "manhoods" to his co-star, and basically the laughs just never stopped and the ladies loved him.
he told a story about flashing one of his "manhoods" to his co-star...
Okay back the truck up here and give DETAILS!!!
Is anyone reading the Television Without Pity recaps on UB? They're pretty funny although sometimes I think Jessica loves the show too much to be TOO snarky about it.
How great was Vanessa Williams in this past episode? "Stop looking!" Classic.
"he told a story about flashing one of his "manhoods" to his co-star"
One of? How many does this freak have?

Wow..
JSYK: Michael Urie is straight even though he was the cover face for a gay magazine.

I am IN LOVE with Henry.
I think he is so hot.
Is that weird?
"GOOD LUCK RETURNING MY ASS!!!!"
Henry is the accountant? Very cute! There are so many cute guys on this show. Eric Mabius, Michael Urie, and Santos (is that Justin's dad?).
Such a yummilicious show--and HILARIOUS.
Henry's double-adorable.
Oh, and Rebecca Romijn will be playing.
*SPOILER*
Ol' what's her face, the woman in the plastic surgery unit planning the takeover of Meade with Wilhemina (sorry, I forget her name).
Fey Summers? Really??? Oh that's exciting!
Is Fey the old editor of Mode?
She's the one we all assume her to be...but I can't shake the feeling that "the mysterious lady" might be someone else entirely.
It could be. They've never actually called her Fey before, have they?
Isn't Fey (is that really how they spell it??) old?
*SHRUG*
all I know is that there was an interview that said Rebecca will be playing the mysterious woman in the bandages. They have never called her Fey, they have simply implied she's Fey.
I'll call you Fey right to your face.
Always!
No, isn't it weird that that's how it's spelled? Tina Fey, I guess, okay. whatever.
