ok,..he gets some bonus points for that reaction when Tatiana came downstairs. That was hilarious!

Darn, I missed that part. Since the whole episode was basically the judges pretending to act like they were going to say no and then...PSYCHE...say yes, I skipped a lot.

Ok wait...why are they both dressed like Dracula in that video?

Not to belabor the point, but dear God that Agony video was - I'll just say it - agony. That director needs to learn a thing or two about pace (and that's the least of their problems!)

In the words of Rowan Atkinson, he's a big girl's blouse.

Don't get his appeal, or don't get the Atkinson line?

If the latter, just that he's very, very fey.

It was the Atkinson comment, Reg. Thanks for clarifying, that's what I sort of figured.

He actually has an impressive voice; he's even quite nice looking. But I find the persona he's constructed for himself off-putting.

There are actually a couple of contestants I'm really anxious to see what they can do as time goes on.

I like Alexis Grace, Jackie Tohn, Anne Marie Boskovich - not so sure about the guys yet.

Wait, in the dracula video, they weren't purposely doing bad acting for camp sake?

I have two favorites so far. Danny Gokey and Jackie Tohn.

I may not know a lot about theater but I know that I love it.

Ugh, Im so over Danny Gokey, how many times is he gonna bring up his dead wife? Seriously? He's guaranteed final 2 with that sob story. Im still pissed they didn't put Jamar in the top 36, its ridiculous.

He loved her very much and she's gone forever, so probably a lot. If it were me, I would, too.

"Ugh, Im so over Danny Gokey, how many times is he gonna bring up his dead wife?"

What an insensitive remark. It was his wife not his dog. She died a month before his intitial audition which means she hasn't even been dead six months yet. He's still in mourning.

I love Danny and I think he will be a finalist..but I don't want to hear anyone's back story. Just sing.

and that boy can SING!

Here are the first 12 singing tonight. Do they only take the top 3? I don't remember.

Singing in the first group of 12 tonight are:

Danny Gokey

Anne Marie Boskovich

Anoop Desai

Stevie Wright

Casey Carlson

Stephen Fowler

Michael Sarver

Brent Keith

Jackie Tohn

Tatiana Nicole del Toro

Alexis Grace

Ricky Braddy

They take the top 3, yup. Except it's a little more complicated than that because what it is is they they take the top guy and the top girl, and then whoever, whether guy OR girl, is third. So if it's a guy heavy group and the top 3 of the night are all guys, then one of them is going to be left out.

Which is why I thoroughly HATE this format. blah.

But there is also a judges' wild card night, where the judges will select the last three finalists. I would imagine that anyone who gets bumped viathe scenario SNL describes would get another look from the judges.

Wait, Dannny Gokey's wife died? When was this? Why didn't they tell us! Man, they could at least show some pictures of her or have Danny sing a song where he talks about missing a dead person like "Kiss from a Rose."

re: AMERICAN IDOL#321

Posted: 2/17/09 at 2:46pm

^this is true, yes.

I guess I just.. don't so much trust the producers to bring back the right people, and the judges to pick the right people haha

At least in the first 3 seasons when they did it this way, I think they picked 4 wild cards, 3 were judges picks and the 4th was voted on by us. And guess who was the audience pick... CLAY re: AMERICAN IDOL

Let's keep in mind that the (over)emphasis on Danny's tragedy is the work of the producers, and not Danny.

That format totally disregards the voters. Someone could have twice the votes of someone of the opposite sex, and not get in.

I definitely don't BLAME him- he does seem like a sweet guy- but I can't help but think... he did give them tapes from his wedding, didn't he? I mean, those things just don't magically appear in the hands of Idol producers out of nowhere.

I'm sure he wasn't intentionally pimping his wife's death just to get support or anything like that though. They probably just asked him stuff about his past, it came up, and he went with it.

It DOES make me really appreciate Cook last year though, that he actually went out of his way to ensure that his brother Adam's illness wasn't exploited at all.
