I was again quite unimpressed with this twelve. I am so disappointed at how bad some of these people were...Jasmine? TERRIBLE! Save for Adam (best vocal, but calm the eff down!), Allison, who I remember form Hwood week and was glad she did so well, and...Mishavonna, yep, I said it, I think she did a great job.
I do not understand why the Kris love. I thought he was boring, and his vocals were mediocre. Same goes for the weird "package artist" girl...dont see why anyone liked her. Bad copycat performance, imo.
As far as Nick/Norman goes, I'm not sure what his motivations are, but I do think he has a nice voice. I wonder if he's hedging his bets that he'll be invited to sing again for the wildcard round and comes out as Nick and blows everyone away.
But I'll say it again, he is not 28. I look younger at 45.

Ok, I do NOT freaking understand why so many people love Nick/Norman. haha. I cannot STAND him. I don't think he's funny, I don't think he's good, he's just.. annoying. He hit ONE fairly impressive note in his performance. Everything else... I don't even think he can really SING. He just FAKES being able to sing halfway decently by putting on a ridiculous act.
Just my opinion. haha

He cracks me up.
Especially during a season where the producers have already chosen their winner. It makes for more intersesting subject matter to talk about before Danny is crowned. I also hope Tatiana comes back.

Nick is funny and has an ok voice (he wasn't one of the top three or four singers of the night by any stretch), but if he doesn't wish to be taken seriously, then he shouldn't. I'm not a huge fan of voting for the ridiculous.
I actually liked Jesse and Mishavonna a lot.
Where is Stacy and Clinton when you need them?
Seriously.
And the Danny backlash is very interesting. All this bashing for his alleged exploitation of his dead wife to get votes (which I believe is more of a fault of the producers than anything else), yet Nick's alter-ego antics engineered to get votes is celebrated. I can only assume audience manipulation is acceptable when it is blatant rather than based on cynical assumptions? Regardless, Danny would be damned by the snarks no matter what he did. If he didn't talk about it dead wife, he would be viewed as cold and heartless, as it would have come out in the press, anyway. If he does talk about his wife, it's exploitation. I think it's just his personality. He reminds me of those hip youth-pastor types who look trendy, yet remain very emotionally and spiritually grounded in their faith. He seems genuine.

To make myself clear, Nick/Norman stunk last night, but I hear a good voice behind the crapola of Norman, better than most last night...he just isnt showing it through the facade of Norman. It did come through when he sang AITYING during Hollywood week.
I'm not sure he isnt trying to self destruct, either. He shows the pressure more than most.

There's a voice there, and a big one, despite his annoying non-stop apologia.
But the whole boy-doing-Effie shtick is so tired. Why not really go retro, and daringly Sam Harris-ize, with, say "The Man That Got Away" or "My Man." (or "Music That Makes Me Dance") Or maybe an a capella version of "YMCA" (remember that in LONGTIME COMPANION, when everyone got teary? Still moving and smile-inducing). G

Posted: 2/26/09 at 12:32pmI just think the whole Norman schtick is already tired. The nerdy character thing with the decent voice was fine for getting people's attention, but now it's just obnoxious. Just let him join the cast of The Office already and leave him to his target audience. I don't think winning American Idol is his primary objective.

Posted: 2/26/09 at 12:37pmLOL Mister Matt. But PLEASE don't let him join The Office....

re: AMERICAN IDOL#592
Posted: 2/26/09 at 3:45pmthe first three groups (all 36) we vote for 3 to move on. The fourth group will be people that the judges bring back to sing and the judges will choose three of them to round out the top 12

will they pull a surprise and have a top 13 so each judge gets a pick?
That sort of thing happened in season 2 when they went from Top 10 to Top 12--during the wild card week, they announced that the Top was going from 10 to 12 so each judge got a wild card pick.
re: AMERICAN IDOL#594
Posted: 2/26/09 at 8:32pmYES! My two favorites are through!
re: AMERICAN IDOL#595
Posted: 2/26/09 at 8:34pmAnd Adam will be the third. Do we really need this extra half hour? I'm happy about Allison, though. I love her.
re: AMERICAN IDOL#597
Posted: 2/26/09 at 8:42pmAdam is a given. I've already changed the channel, LOL.

I expected Adam and Allison (though it was still uber wonderful seeing them get through), but I am SO thrilled for Kris!!
He's so adorable, and I love his musical style, and he's just.. awesome.
I was totally expecting Matt to get through, so Kris was a wonderful surprise!
I must say, I am loooving America right now for not taking all the gimmick nonsense they tried to stick us with. No Tatiana and no Normund. As it should be. :) (though I DO admit that Tatiana has a voice. So if they reeeally wanted to bring her back, I'd accept that)
