AMERICAN IDOL

Conventional wisdom would have Lil going home this week, after a bad performance and sassing the judges, but dialidol has her in third place for the night with Matt, Allison and Kris in the bottom three!
They were off last week, however, so you never know.

You know, I feel sorry for Lil. She started out on the show with a bang-was great, and the judges loved her. Ever since then, they've been giving her criticism every which way but the way she started. If she only had the balls that Adam has she would have stuck to her guns and done what she does best, but she sincerely tried to be what the judges were telling her to be, and she changed. She's very talented but they killed her talent. And as it turned out, they sabotaged her chances.
I give her credit for not lashing out at them for real. Last night's little argument wasn't even what they deserved. I'm glad she said what she did, but I'm afraid it's too late for anything.

I do feel like Lil has gotten the runaround from the judges, but honestly, she simply hasnt been performing well. Last night was dreadful and it shouldnt have been. That song was a smart choice to give an r&b vibe, but she just couldnt deliver that. I think she's a good singer, but not a great singer and a pretty bad performer.

I don't get A.I. ..the answer to the show running long is cut the judges comments? ..wha?? How about cutting the mentor? They are totally useless. Or at least don't show as much footage of them.
When it was Randy and Kara's turn to talk, I was just looking at Simon's face to figure out what he thought of the performance.
re: AMERICAN IDOL#1555
Posted: 4/15/09 at 1:08pmLil started out so great, but she's been rolling downhill for the past few weeks. Last night was painful. As soon as I discovered she was singing "The Rose", I had the sinking feeling there was no way it was going to work unless she completely reworked the song into something totally difference and off the wall. And let's face it, she's just not that innovative. That song has been overplayed for decades and horrifically sung by millions since the invention of karaoke. The moment I hear "Some say love...", I head for the john. RARELY is it ever performed well and Lil just didn't do it. Her pitch was all over the place from the start and I had to fast forward through it. I also fast forwarded through Matt, but that was because I was just terribly bored. Allison was my favorite of the night and hit a home run. Adam was good doing his glam rocker thing, but I just don't care for it. I missed his heavily touted performance last week, but honestly, I don't really feed the need to see it. I'm sure it was great, but at this point, he could just stand there and do nothing and still not get in the bottom three. He's very talented, the fans love him and I wish him well. But personally, I'm all about Allison.

It's true. No one really cares what Kara has to say (at least I don't.)
If they need to fit the show into an hour, cut out the 10 minutes at the top of the show of Quentin Tarrantino. We know he's makes kickass movies, no need to reiterate.
I don't remember them having this problem in years past. Except, of course, for the infamous..."And the winner of american idol.....season seven....is.......David....." end.

The problem is that all four judges were speaking about each contestant and the mentor packages are too long.
The only judges I want to hear from are Kara and Simon who are the only ones that make sense, even if I disagree with them.
Allison is the only one close to being as talented as Adam. She's just terrific, and I HATE the song she sang last night...loved her tho.

I'm surprised how few of people knew about Once before Kris last night. For those who haven't seen it, it really is a great movie. Going into it, I thought it would be stupid and obnoxious, but it was a beautiful, moving movie with a phenomenal soundtrack. Falling Slowly is in the top 5 most played songs on my iTunes.
But back on topic, I really think Matt should go. To me, he's been a mess since he started the show. I haven't enjoyed a single performance of his. It is definitely his time.
I'm not going to even try to defend Lil Rounds. Apparently many just believe her to be a horrible mess, and while I thoroughly disagree, to each his own. i still believe she's better than mush-mouth Iraheta. Alison(sp?) is a great singer, but has she ever heard of diction??

A friend of mine and occasional poster here just sent me this in an email regarding what a blogger at EW.com had to say about Danny Gokey's performance last night. I think he's pretty insightful and funny about all of the contestants but particularly Danny.
"...I can't get past the way Danny's performances all seem to follow the same exact template: Understated and sporadically flat on the verse, heading directly into loogie-hawking, violent vocal strain on the chorus. Music appreciation is a subjective pursuit, I know, but I can't understand why this guy has never taken a trip to the Silver Stools of Doom. Heck, maybe a close encounter with Carrie Underwood's 'Home Sweet Home' will teach the guy there's more to artistry than some strategically sculpted stubble and a frequent-shopper card at LensCrafters."

Posted: 4/15/09 at 3:23pmI missed the beginning of the show so when only Simon and Paula gave their opinions on Allison, I totally thought they had dissed Randy and Kara. Burn! LOL

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
I don't fully get the Danny Gokey hype either. He needs to take a trip to those silver stools, for sure.
I nearly threw up from the syrupy sweet performance from last night. Seriously? Endless love? Out of ALL the movie songs to choose, he chose THAT one? Give me a f'ing break.

Next week's theme per Paula - DISCO!
Too bad Adam already did Play that Funky Music, but he'll find something else fun. Lady Marmalade?
This would not be the week to go ballad, keep that for Top 5.
And Adam, no Bee Gees in entire falsetto

Songs I would love to hear:
Turn the Beat Around
On the Radio
Don't Leave Me This Way (I would actually like to hear what Adam could do with this one)
It's Raining Men
I Love the Nightlife
If You Could Read My Mind
Go West
I Feel Love (I'd love Allison to do an edgy rock version of this one)
As a gay man, I'm really burned out on Dancing Queen, YMCA, I Will Survive and Last Dance and would be grateful if they just avoid those altogether.

I just want to clarify my post about Lil. I agree that she's gone downhill, but my point was that I think the reason for that was her trying to please the judges by following their confusing advice. If you remember her first night, she was great. I think she proved her talent and she should have stuck with what she was good at.
Okay, carry on!

She's kind of awkward on stage. Still like her, though.
I kind of want to see 17 again. I guess their advertising worked! LOL
