AMERICAN IDOL
re: AMERICAN IDOL#1575
Posted: 4/15/09 at 9:46pmI thought Jennifer Hudson sounded great but she did look a little bored or distracted during her performance. I like the album version of that song alot better then hearing it live.

That was my first time to hear Miley Cyrus sing. And I hope it's the last.
Jennifer Hudson's song was obviously pre-taped. Was Cyrus'? I could watch long enough to tell.

Posted: 4/15/09 at 9:53pmAw, I'm not impressed with Matt, but I'm happy for him.

Miley was definitely pretaped. which is horrible...if she sings that terribly live taped, imagine what shes like live live.
Yay Matt! I really like him...
re: AMERICAN IDOL#1580
Posted: 4/15/09 at 9:55pmHe was horrendous!!!! TERRIBLE! Why in the world save him??

My guess is that they were going to use the save no matter who it was tonight.
They obviously wanted to use the save at some point for the drama of it and wanted to use it before too many fodder singers were gone that would risk them losing one of their preferred ones in the double elimination week.
re: AMERICAN IDOL#1583
Posted: 4/15/09 at 9:57pmIm glad they used the save. It made for a little extra drama and next week will be scary with two going home.
re: AMERICAN IDOL#1584
Posted: 4/15/09 at 10:05pmMore importantly, next week is disco week!

I was happy for the save - strategically, I think it works. I think it's stupid that they could only use the save before it was down to 5, after they're down to 5 is when it's more crucial to save someone that the idiotic public doesn't vote for.
Have you all seen this.........LMAO at Simon's response and reaction to.

re: AMERICAN IDOL#1586
Posted: 4/15/09 at 10:27pmThe save is virtually useless since next week 2 people have to go home. So...whatever

I don't think having a disco week is fair, even though disco is my favorite music.
Good disco is so technically enhanced with effects, and often sung by more than one person, and has tons of orchestrations, that one kid singing live with a band never really sounds good. I've never cared for anyone's disco night performance.

Matt definitely seemed SUPER SUPER appreciative of being given another chance (plus the others were SO excited for him!), so I'd kind of feel bad saying the save is TOTALLY annoying, but... come on now. I just feel like they shouldn't have been freaking advertising the save soooo much, because now they used it because they felt like they HAD to, and Matt was the most worthy of the people who've been eliminated so far.
I DID like the idea of the save in general. But if I had it my way, I would just keep it stowed away kind of as an option just IN CASE a clear front runner needed it. The way they centered the entire elimination around "whether or not each person will be saved" is so ridiculous. It should just be an implied thing that if you're eliminated, you're eliminated, but if the judges unanimously feel that you REALLY are a font runner and deserve to stay, they'll be like "oh hey, we'd like to save you". But it shouldn't have been put at the forefront like it was. Because now two people have to go home next week, and that could potentially get screwy.
It's just stupid to treat the save that way. It should be stowed away and reserved ONLY for if it's a very very clear case of "WTF how could that person be eliminated so early on!? Ok, we're going to save you because that's ridiculous". You know, a Jen Hudson or Michael Johns type deal.
This season there hasn't BEEN anyone eliminated yet worthy of the save. If Kris had been the one with the lowest votes, THEN I would say "yeah, he deserves to be saved" because he's as much a front runner at this point as Michael Johns was last year. He's not going to win, probably, but he certainly has proven that he deserves to stay until at LEAST top 5 or 4 (for me he'd be 3 or 2)
So yeah... fail on the save front.
But again, Matt WAS thrilled to be given the chance, so I feel bad being too bitter about it haha

OH, double post, but favorite moment of the night:
"Adam, were you insulted by Simon's Rocky Horror comment?"
"No, I think it's a great movie!!... did he mean it as an insult?"
"No"
"Then we're good!"
teehee
Adam FTWWW. He is such a cutie
re: AMERICAN IDOL#1591
Posted: 4/16/09 at 8:51amWell, Matt is not my LEAST favorite, but I think they effed up by wasting the save on him. JMO.
re: AMERICAN IDOL#1592
Posted: 4/16/09 at 8:53amI thought Miley Cyrus looked like she was kind of insane. And I was also afraid she was going to pop out of her dress.
re: AMERICAN IDOL#1593
Posted: 4/16/09 at 8:54amI wish the judges had used their save weeks ago to keep Alexis in the competition. It's a shame that she left before the likes of Megan and Scott. She was far superior, but got cut before the top ten, so she won't be on the tour.
re: AMERICAN IDOL#1594
Posted: 4/16/09 at 9:08amI was really glad that Simon gave his feedback on Kris' performance last night because Randy's criticism was way off base.

Side note...
When they first presented the idea of the save, they used examples of when contestants got voted off too early, ie. Chris Daughtry, Jennifer Hudson and Michael Johns......wait, Michael Johns?? Really? I didn't think it was such a travesty when he left the show. He had one or two good weeks, but mostly average weeks. I definitely did not think he was "voted off too early."
Maybe its just me.
Anyways, happy they used the save on Matt versus someone like Scott. I can't even believe they contemplated using it on Scott at all. I'm surprised Lil didn't get the boot.
re: AMERICAN IDOL#1596
Posted: 4/16/09 at 11:08amI think the save was one of the dumbest things ever. Is it just me or does it seem Anoop is kind of "over" the whole Idol thing? He never looks happy or excited...just there...I dunno, maybe that's just his "personality".
re: AMERICAN IDOL#1597
Posted: 4/16/09 at 12:46pm
I thought Anoop looked kind of pissed off - like "how dare the American public put me in the bottom three? I thought I was awesome".
I'm ready to see his frat boy ass kicked to the curb.

Would 'How Deep is your love?' by the Bee Gees be considered disco? It's on the Saturday night fever soundtrack. The lyrics are so great for Adam and when everyone else will bounce back uptempo from their dreary ballads this week, Adam could have a moment. I'd be in tears.
"Cause we're living in a world of fools,
breaking us down,
when they all should let us be
we belong to you and me. "
Also saw this posted about an interview
"An off-camera voice asked about song choice this week and Adam offered that "it's very tricky......it can't be karaoke.....(or like at) a wedding."
re: AMERICAN IDOL#1599
Posted: 4/16/09 at 1:17pmPersonally, I would say How Deep Is Your Love would qualify as disco as there were a few standout ballads in the genre that found their way onto many a dance floor. While disco dancing has only recently been regarded as a serious dance form, it did have its variations, both fast and slow, and the music genre itself was quite a bit more varied than most would think. By the early 80s, disco was written off as inconsequential fluff (anyone else remember the "DISCO IS DEAD" slogan?), and some if it was (Disco...Disco Duck!), but nearly 30 years later, critics are starting to acknowledge the amount of artistry and work that went into much of that wildly controversial pop culture phenomenon.
