No idea.
It was Kruschev.
I'm gonna grab some Dinner, but I'll be back on-line shortly...
Okay, thanks!
What's the difference between the FBI and the CIA?
The FBI is just for the US, and the CIA spies on other countries and stuff. The FBI is mostly law enforcement, while the CIA does less of that and more undercover stuff.
The difference between the CIA and FBI is VERY Easy.
FBI = manages INTERNAL Affairs.
CIA = manages EXTERNAL Affairs.
When was the Federal Income Tax first used?
Umm I know the 16th amendment dealth with income tax.. and that is a progressive amendment following the 13,14,15 amendments during reconstruction...
so i'll go with... no idea!! arghh
It was the 17th Amendment that gave the Government the right to levy a Federal Income Tax--which Wilson did in 1913.
HOWEVER, Lincoln instituted a Federal Income Tax back in the 1860s--AS USUAL, Lincoln was not a man to let the Constitution get in his way when he wanted to do something.
Which President described his Administration as "The New Frontier"?
Was that in 1913 when they lowered the Tariff (the Underwood tariif?) and started the income tax to make up for lost revenue?
New Frontier~ JFK
M_E, I am pretty sure the 17th amendment called for the direct election of senators...
I think the answer to the New Frontier question is Polk though.
Sorry. JFK referred to his Administration as "The New Frontier".
Which President termed HIS Administration "The Great Society"?
LBJ!!
LBJ is Correct!!!
What were the root causes of the Spanish-American War?
Cuba's fight for independence and the blowing up of the Maine.
On PAPER, it was about the U.S. helping Cuba maintain its newly-won Independence from Spain--and attacking Spain when they sunk "The Maine".
However, most Historians agree that it was just an excuse for American "expansionists" to gobble up more Foreign Land.
Who were the Union and Confederate Generals at The Battle of Gettysburg?
Confederate- Lee
Union- Meade (I had to look this one up)
Correct!!!
Why did Lincoln FIRE Meade after he WON the Battle of Gettysburg?
Not sure. Was it because thre were too many casualties? Or maybe because Meade could have won sooner, but did something stupid? There were a lot of Union generals who did that...
M_E~ Could you ask a few questions about the causes of the Civil War? My teacher thinks that might be what the DBQ is on.
Sure.
First, the reason Lincoln fired Meade is because all he did was allow Lee and his troops to retreat out of Pennsylvania... Lincoln wanted Meade to follow them into Virginia, seize Richmond--and END the Civil War in 1863--two years before it actualy did.
...I'm going back to the Library, but I'll be back in a bit--and I'll be MORE THAN HAPPY to discuss the root causes of the Civil War with you...
Oh my gosh!! I just realized: I am a legend!! And it's all thanks to this thread!
There were MANY reasons why the Civil War started--Slavery was only ONE amongst SEVERAL ISSUSES.
Lets take them one step at a time.
1. The North was dependent upon an INDUSTRIAL Economy; The South was dependent upon an AGRARIAN One.
Okay.
2. The North believed in a CENTRALIZED Form of Government--where The States Surrended their power to the Federal Government. The South believed in States' Rights--that each State had the right to govern itself--EVEN when it made decisions contrary to Federal Law.
