I had to think for a moment when I first discovered "the Adam".
I remember I was watching "Diary" with Mandy Moore on MTV (no comments about her performance on the Bravo show, she was 17, get over it) and I really didn't pay much attention to him. Then later on when I started doing the dirty dirty with music (downloading, SHH), I found "Suddenly Seymour" from that performance. The moment I heard him sing that first verse I'm like "Wow, I love this voice. I want to sing like that. WHO IS THIS MAN?" Then I managed to find out about Adam Pascal here and there on the internet, and I just really thought his looks were the icing on the cake. Granted my only exposure to his acting has been in "School of Rock" and the RENT Movie, and that little bit of "SLC Punk" (and the ONLY bit of that God-awful movie I watched).
But I'm a huge fan because I love his voice, the kind of music he makes (which I consider REAL rock, and my kind of rock, not the drivel of ball-squeezing fakes we hear on the radio), and of course, his ass! Kidding, his looks. He just has that something about him that is just so attractive.
Anyway that's my two cents.
The first time I saw RENT on B'way, I had absolutely no knowledge of the show. I went out and bought the OBCR, and to tell you the truth, I don't even remember the breakdown of my initial thoughts. Clearly, I loved it enough for it to be permanently placed in my CD player. The first time I saw Adam live was in Aida. Unfortunately, I don't clearly remember that experience either. I wish, looking back, that I had absorbed more and really taken it in.
I honestly think a lot of the Adam fans probably got a start over his voice. Perhaps the looks helps to add to the obsession, but I don't believe it's THE reason people love Adam. I think both the looks and the voice kind of bleed into the appreciation of his other...talents. It would be interesting to see if his songwriting and acting work were as appreciated if he were ugly and had a different voice.
But, I GUESS you can ask the same question about a lot of people, eh?
But he got the acting *because* of the voice...
I feel like a dog chasing its tail.
Well, I know. That's kind of what I was saying (I think). Most of the appreciation of his acting kind of came by way of his vocal skills. And his best acting is when he's singing, IMO.
I agree; he acts best through music. There's less hand-waving, though he's made that his trademark.
"sailing hands"
I'm just sayin'.

That, and searching for the horizon!
I heard Adam sing before I saw his face. I fell for the voice first.
I remember when my mom came home and really wanted me to listen to this show that she said was really good, it was called Aida. I immediately fell in love with the gorgeous voice and began referring to him as Radames, never knowing the actor's name. A couple years later, I kept hearing about this guy, Adam Pascal. I looked him up only to realize that he was the guy whose voice I had loved from before! Looked up pictures, yeah, he was kinda cute, I really don't think he's hot, but his voice is, and I love his music. So if Adam was gorgeous but couldn't sing, forget it.
Like many others, I was voice before the face.

One Song Glory was the most played song on my iTunes for quite some time (it is no longer, but that's not the point). My love for Adam evolved from that.
Note: When I saw Aida, I def. didn't pay much attention to him as an actor, but I was 10.

I adore both his albums for the music. I don't give a crap what the person who creates the album looks like as long as I enjoy the music.
For me, it's the voice. It's simply one of the sexiest, most unique voices I've ever heard. With that voice, he'd be hot to some degree, no matter what he looked like. I heard his voice first on the Rent OBC, but when I saw him in the show, he just made me melt.
He was also just a plain really nice guy at the stage door. It just so happens that he's friggin' gorgeous TOO.

That's quite a username you've got there.
Three off-topic threads about the man -- that must be a record.
I suppose I should also add that I think he's a really nice guy. Understatement.

thank you all for being so honest - I'll be honest with you I saw the OBC of Rent 30-40 times and I have to admit that Adam would make the theatre shake his voice was so passionate and incredible. I went to his APB shows also. And also saw Aida. But I have to admit, his looks did not hurt liking him more. Can't get over those arms and that smile. Thats why I started the thread, I think looks do play into things and was curious how his looks effected others as they did to me. Talking to him after the Rent shows also helped, he is a very charming man, which plays into his looks again - so I just wanted to be honest since everyone else has been so honest. Thanks a bunch fellow fans.

The first time I listened to the Aida CD I thought "WOW who is this guy?" I thought he was amazing. Yes, he is a good looking man but I know plenty of actors who aren't exactly "good looking" but I am still in love with their voices and talent
