Posted: 9/13/18 at 8:15amIt was good for about 2/3 of it and then it was like “Oh there you are, Ryan Murphy’s lazy writing!”

I thought the writing and acting were BAAAAAAAD from the start of the episode.
I kinda gave up on American Horror Story a couple of seasons ago, but I loved "Murder House" season 1 so I thought I would give this a chance. So, I am going to watch a couple of more episodes to determine if I am going to continue watching or not.

They were setting the scene up for about 40 minutes. I can use a faster pace, and I hope they don't shy away from the realistic theatricality which made Murder House and Coven such good seasons.

I find it funny when people say what a good season COVEN was. COVEN was an awful mess. It's just that everything that came after it was such a bigger sh*tshow than that, that it actually makes it appear decent. But go back to it - it sucks.

I liked "Coven" up until like the half way mark and then it got stupid for me.

Murder House and Asylum were well-crafted and genuinely scary. Coven was entertaining and enjoyable, campy fun. Why since Freak Show has Murphy been unable to craft an enjoyable storyline? Hotel meandered around with a few stunning performances and while I enjoyed Roanoke (I watched it after it aired in about a week), I've heard it was not fulfilling to watch it week-to-week. I'm going in tenantively excited, and will at least watch the first three episodes. We'll see.

Agree. The Kathy Bates story line was really interesting. But then that stopped short after a few episodes and they turned the most interesting character they had into a shuffling, mumbling maid, then later a head on a plate. The rest was a bad episode of Charmed. Not the good ones with Shannon Dougherty, the later bad ones with Rose McGowan.

it was blah. the food scene was SO predictable. as soon as she was like "a hot meal" i knew what it was. but im sticking around to see what the COVEN/MH tie in is. I was hoping when Sarah appeared shed be like "hi im cordelia"

Murder House Tie-in: Michael Langdon is the name of the baby (anti-Christ ?) born at the end of Murder House. His Grandma is Constance (Jessica Lange).

I am only able to watch this when the dvd comes out. Usually the previous season comes out at around the same time time as the new season premiere. I wonder why the last one (about a cult?) isn't being putting out on dvd? Of course, I am still waiting for Feud to come out on dvd.

I didn’t hate it? But also... I don’t care about a single character and I wouldn’t even remotely classify it as “horror”. More “morose camp dramedy”. And some of the performances so far are eye-rollingly bad. There’s the actors who understand high camp, there’s the actors who elevate material no matter what they’re saying, and then there’s Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman who is milking every last second of his good looks because ain’t no way he got hired on talent.
I’ll keep up with it for at least a couple more episodes. It’s much better than the premiere of Cult, but I honestly don’t know what I expect from AHS year after year. Every season from Coven onward has been a jumbled, unfocused, unmotivated, ridiculous mess. At least Murder House and Asylum took the time to invest in the characters and give them real emotional stakes.

Let’s be real, though - the show has NEVER been “horror”. Ever.

Posted: 9/16/18 at 11:03amI disagree, Jordan. The first two seasons are mainly a horror story. It’s certainly forgotten that since Coven, however. I wouldn’t say I’ve ever been scared, necessarily, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t at least start out as a camp dramedy based in horror roots.

There’s been suspense but to me as a horror junkie, it’s never been horror. It’s wanted to be horror. It’s tried so hard to be horror. But it’s made by people who appear to have only read a Wikipedia entry as to what the genre is and from that, tried to make a go at it but just can’t stop getting in their own way.

Posted: 9/16/18 at 2:06pmI will agree that it was created by two men with not an ounce of aptitude in the horror genre. Suspenseful? Yes, fitfully. Scary? Not even a little.

Literally only watch AHS for the absurdness and my huge crush on Sarah Paulson. Other than that, the past few seasons have been dismal and all over the place.
Like always, the first episode of Apocalypse was slow... and as always it ended abruptly. But I will stick around because there are always at least one or two decent scenes that remind me why I started watching in the first place!

Posted: 9/19/18 at 12:58pmI have this feeling hat Murphy is going to write some stupid thing that’ll be revealed in the end how it wasn’t the apocalypse at all and just an experiment or something dumb.

Gotta agree. Season Three lost me and I made it about two episode in to Season Four before I left it.
Decided to try out this season and give the show about chance. It's cringy bad.
The show opens with Evan Peters as an effeminate cosmetologist because this show wants you to know, from the get go, that it's shooting for the stars. And by the stars, I really mean cliches. This show is shooting for cliches.
Oohhhhhh, nuclear winter and rich cannibales!
Oohhhhhh, sets that look like Stanley Kubrick's Overlook Hotel had a bastard child with an Ikea.
Oohhhhhh, how many nuclear holocaust cliches can we fit in the first hour?
Oohhhhhh, it's a Ryan Murphy show so you know you're going to be seeing the naked butt of at least two white guys who kinda look like the same person in the first hour.
Ryan Murphy is the L. Ron Hubbard of Horror.

Four Broadway stars on tonight's episode sharing a scene together:
BD Wong, Billy Porter, Cheyenne Jackson and Jon Jon Briones! What a treat.

I'm super behind on American Horror Story. I feel like half of their relevance comes from their subway ads. Every 8 months or so I look at something very artistic and very disturbing on the wall as I head towards the six train and think "american horror storys back.'
