^DON'T RUIN THE BEST SURPRISE IN AMERICAN HORROR STORY HISTORY!^
I absolutely loved it. That's probably due in part to Emma Roberts' absence, but all in all I felt that it's already much more integrated than Coven. All the characters feel absolutely necessary, whereas last season they seemed thrown in because the recurring actors needed parts. And Twisty doesn't scare me that much, but that Fraces Conroy and her demonic son do.

Did anyone else start a-twitchin' when the clown wound up the clown doll and 'Love Makes the World Go Round' from Carnival started playing, even though Carnival is like a decade away from when this is set!?!?! I was like, 'How DARE you, Ryan Murphy! Of all your sins, THIS is the most unforgivable.' And then the show went batsh*t and had Lange sing Bowie and I was all, 'Gotcha!'
Every time that clown showed up I just started shouting 'NO!' out loud to no one in particular.

Bowie now. Fiona Apple and Lana Del Rey later. Ugh... I almost wish they would re-do them with 50's era sound, like the music in Baz's The Great Gatsby was styled to the time. It's a weird nitpick I have when people use modern music in a firm past setting.
While I didn't find Twisty creepy because he's a clown because I don't have that fear, it was creepy seeing him emerge from the woods and later have a blank look while stabbing someone repeatedly.
I feel like with every season (apart from the third season), Evan Peters gets better.

OH GOD! I reminded me of a (very) similar scene from ZODIAC and I almost couldn't bear to watch it.

I have been having sound issues with the show. I don't know if it is my system or what... but I am having trouble listening to and understanding some of the dialogue. I noticed this last year during Coven.. I don't have this issue with anything else. Is it the sound mix of the show? Anyone else have similar issue?
I loved it by the way. Just had to replay a few scenes. especially the scene with Jessica in the diner.

He said he left t to do theatre--he was Biff in the Salesman revival and Chance in the Diane Lane Sweet Bird in Chicago, but seems to be back to higher profile tv work--he was the gay prostitute on Masters of Sex last year, and now this...

Dame, I have the same sound issues on all the FX shows I watch. I had to crank the volumes just to hear the dialogue on Fargo and The Bridge as well, yet during silent scenes save for musical underscoring, the sound became very loud. (The warning about viewer discretion after each commercial break is also EXTREMELY loud and almost scares me if I hit play too soon on the dvr and it catches it.)
I thought the premiere of Freak Show was a vast improvement over Coven. Sarah Paulson was excellent, and it looks like she's positioned to be our lead protagonists too.

Whizzer, Thanks for saying so. I was about to start dealing with the settings on my system which is always a pain in the ass. I think next week I will try to watch the show on demand to see if it is any better sound wise. I have to do the same for Sons Of Anarchy.

I'm so dumb I actually thought it was a choice for the first segment, to keep the viewer off balance, to lean in to understand the things Jessica was saying to the twins and flipper boy and the peppermint girl.
