I still never watched all of Asylum. There was an episode early on where Chloë Sevigny had her limbs amputated and she was ... was it covered in boils? I was out after that, but I did watch that finale.
I bet next year has a lot of nonsense about connecting all the seasons, even though they totally made it up in the middle of this season.
A lot of online chatter I've read is romanticizing Murder House while decrying Freak Show, but Murder House was a hot mess from the get go, too. Moira made no sense. "He's probably on his fourth unprotected blow job" made no sense.
Coven was really really terrible, but it skated by for such a long time on its concept and the way all those actresses devoured every every bit of scenery they encountered. I think it was the most consistently funny season as well, which is just what you want from a show called American
Horror Story, I know. I still laugh when I think about the way Angela Bassett delivered "What the head said!" But that plot line was a big bag of bullsh:t. There was no consistency with the rules of the magic. There were no stakes because you knew that if someone died they were more than likely going to come back to life. Every episode would simply reverse whatever happened in the previous, etc, etc. By the time Stevie Nicks wandered in, there was just no hope.
