Okay, I'm officially over Chris. Yeah, I guess he does his "thing" well, but all his performances sound the exact same to me. I don't get the hoopla.
Taylor was my favorite of the night.
P.S. I don't know if I really believe that rumour about Chris and "Fuel" - If Bono quit U2 and they went after an AI finalist to replace him, I'm sure a deal could be struck with the producers of AI. Financially/publicity wise it would be a win/win situation. Maybe Chris decided he has a decent shot at winning the entire competition and that its more worth HIS time to stay in it.

Perfs of the night:
McPhee
Hicks
I dont see what is so great about Chris. Simply yelling a song does not impress me. Why should he get all of those special effects?
Elliot is so much better than him...but it is Bucky that must go of the men, but it will be Melissa who will leave tonight.
MB, I don't buy the Chris rumor either. Last year, Mario Vasquez made the final 12 but dropped out of the competition a couple of days before the top 12 round, and he didn't have a compelling reason to do so.

Doodle, I also wondered about the special effects - seemed unfair, but I really enjoy Chris' performances.
Fuel ain't U2. It's not like they're playing stadium after stadium. Fuel's a club/theater band, at this point dangerously close to being a one-hit wonder. It's not like The Stones came down and decided they wanted the kid. Judas Priest, who was 100 times more popular than Fuel could ever hope to be, found their replacement singer in a Priest cover band and it got them a lot of pub. Fuel could certainly use some pub.
That being said, the first rule of rock sound is if your singer can't sing you crank the guitar and, man, was the overdrive on that guitar cranked last night. Chris was buried in that arrangement and listening to it, it's not hard to see why. He has no sustain, when he tries to move around he just misses and his tone peters out at the end of his lines.
But he got a lot of volume from the band, smoke and a cool light show.
You might even call it a 'smoke and mirrors show,' if you're so inclined.
I know I am.
I don't think it's unfair to ask why other singers were getting called out for NOT stepping out of their comfort zone while Chris was the most obvious in terms of taking a song and completely adjusting the song to fit his own limited style.
Is it more important to experiment or to 'know who you are and stick with it?' The judges certainly seem to send mixed messages in that regard.

doodle, I agree. Elliot has an incredible voice.
About Chris - I think he is a little overrated. Even from the auditions, I was surprised he made it at all. I think his voice is decent, but I was never too impressed, overall. I think he's improved of late, and I'll give him credit there, but I still am not that crazy about his voice.
Concerning the lights, I think everyone could have any effects they wanted. It's just that Chris's song was rock so his performance got more effects then everyone elses.
About who will be eliminated. I disagree. I like Bucky. I think it will be either Kevin, Kellie, Ace or Melissa. It will prob. be Melissa and Kevin.
I think the top 6 will probably come down to Chris, Elliot, Katherine, Lisa, Taylor and Paris.

I think Melissa's going to go tonight. I don't think she was the worst performer last night (really Kelly was much, MUCH worse, and Kevin is a continual joke I'm not getting) but I don't think she gave a performance that will get people to pick up the phone for her.
My harshest criticism is actually for (ducks) Lisa. I know she is only 17, and seems very sweet, but I am tired of her trying to oversing a song when she cant. She is not Mandisa or Paris, who have big voices. She sings like a mouse trying to outsing a lion. She is not the worst singer, but I am not impressed yet.
JohnPopa...I agree...smoke and mirrors. He didnt sing he yelled, and when he went out of tune, the guitars covered for him.

doodle, I agree, sort of, about Lisa. She is too young... so is Paris, to be honest. But they are both really talented, and popular. So I think they'll both stay on for at least another couple of weeks.
Oh I agree...Lisa is staying, as is Paris (she was much better last night.)
bye Melissa

oh, and I agree. Melissa is most definetely the next one to go. she had the lowest number of votes last week. Her fan-base is too weak for her to stay.
I have a quick question though - are they eliminating 1 person or 2 tonight?
I have been in love with Katharine since her audition and she hasn't disappointed me yet...last night was definetly hers and Taylor's. I like to know sometimes what the judges are hearing.
It'll only be 1 a week from now on. They wont give up the ratings that quickly!

ah... lol, yeah. They are making millions on this. I mean, it had more viewers then the Winter Olympics, prime time too.
Broadway Boobs - I sometimes question that too. I think Simon is the only somewhat honest one.
He is usually right, too. Not always, and I hate his descriptions (cabaret, kareoke, etc.) but there is truth in what he says...and the voting usually goes the way he thinks.
Paula is pointless, if the first thing she says is "you look great tonite" then you know you did bad...thats the only way to tell. The reason she is in the middle is so that she can hear what Simon or Randy have said and agree with it.
Boobsie, I wonder what the judges hear too...and sometimes during the elimination nite they admit they were wrong in their assessment after they saw the broadcast. Last night, why did they like Melissa so much?
I haven't been able to pay as much attention to the s how this season as I'd like, but so far I think I like Paris the best. Was Ace eliminated yet?
If you noticed, the producers favorite are at the end. AT first Ace was last, but I am guessing he isn't the top vote getter anymore. It sucks because a lot of the time by the end you forget those that went first, but I think that is why the first half is usually eh and the second half is so good. I know some people just watch to hear one or two people and turn it off once they are on.
I hope Kevin goes this week. If it is anyone but him or Melissa, I will be shocked

lol, I agree. I think Randy sometimes gives good criticism. In fact, earlier in the contest I thought he was more accurate then Simon. Lately, though, he's been too easily impressed. And Simon has remained staunch.
I think they were impressed with Melissa's vocals, even though she messed up her lyrics (which I did not even notice). I'm not sure. She definetely can sing. I think Paula likes her tone. And, she might have a bit of that 'it' or 'X' factor. I could see her as an actual pop-star. more so then some others.
No Jane, Ace and his rouged cheeks are still there.

Caitie - I never noticed that... about their 'pick' going last; but that's a good observation

My take...
-Last night, Paris was the best.
-Taylor and McPhee get a tie for second-place.
-Elliott and Mandisa tie for third place (although I would have liked to have seen Mandisa sing "Sir Duke.")
-Chris was Chris, which is always good, but totally expected (I predicted he would choose that song).
-Ace was better than usual.
-Kellie and Melissa were the worst.
-I just can't take Kevin seriously - so I can't even say he was bad. It's almost comical!
-Lisa and Bucky were forgettable.
Who goes home next? I think it's Melissa.

Great take, Peach! Just about my assessment too, and I LOVE the idea of Mandisa singing Sir Duke...Katherine would've done a good job with it too.
Tho Paris was better than she has been, I wouldnt have put her better than third.
There was an article a couple years ago about how the order is picked each week. It's not so much the judges favorites but who has the best rehearsals. They want someone great to kick off the show and someone great to end it. If someone's always at the beginning or the end, they're probably having a good run.
It's a standard production methodology--open strong, close strong, or in this case open popular, close popular.
duroc and Doodle...I usually always agree with Simon..even if it's someone I like...he really is the most honest...the only one I disagreed with him on last night was Chris...and what is sad is..I WAS a Chris fan.
Last night...Katharine and Taylor did it for me...they should be the final 2...but it's never who I want anyway...well except the 1st year..I was a BIG Clarkson fan.
