This week

Thank you Shbrt!

"Again.....uh, no."

Wait? No? So you're saying because he couldn't do that, that says nothing about his ability as a performer?

EDIT: Yes, Quibbler. Exactly.

"Thing is, I don't think he was doing it to be entertaining. I think that is how he is. He gets so into it that he does crazy stuff."

I agree. Still, that doesn't mean he could ever do something as exposed as some of Katharine's performances. Or that he's necessarily connecting with a song any more than someone who can perform with a bit more subtlty.
#2254

This week

No, what I'm saying is you're wrong. He is an ENTERTAINER - the complete package, not a crooner like Katharine.
"Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the number of moments that take our breath away."
#2255

This week

You are so completely missing my point.

This week

"Clay Aiken and Carrie Underwood were the most talented people tonight."

I'd say Prince and Dionne Warwick were.

But you just negated yourself... you said Taylor was hopping around to be entertaining, and now you agree that that's just the way he is.

I just don't agree that Katharine has been exposed in her performances. I haven't seen her give a genuine performance full of emotion. None of the contestants have.
#2258

This week

No, I said that because he hops around and acts like an idiot, people think that he's a better entertainer because of it. It's the way he is, but it doesn't make him a better entertainer.

EDIT: Also, though you may disagree that she as a person was able to project more exposed emotions, her performances were more daring in that they actually tried to do so. And those were the performances the judges raved about. The ones that they said made her look like a seasoned professional and the other contestants like amatuers. Taylor never had a moment where he could garner that reaction from taking that risk, because when he did do ballads, he faltered faster than Katharine ever did. And he was criticized for it.

can we just agree that terri schiavo had more personality than Chris?

You just went WAY too far.

Right-he's just doing shtick. LOL!

This week

So can we come to the conclusion, then, that Taylor just IS shtick? lol
#2262

This week

Shtick means he's doing it falsely. He's not.

- I think this is pretty accurate.

Prince is quite talented, however I hate everything about him. I would have said Dionne a while ago, but her age has worn on her. Does anyone else think Meatloaf and Braxton were on something when they came out to sing?
#2264

This week

Who the hell put Meatloaf up there? Singing a Celine Dion song? I felt like I was on something when I was watching that.

Twilight Zone...
my life is brilliant. my love is pure.

"Shtick means he's doing it falsely."

Not true. Shtick can be very natural and true to a person. It just means that it's their "thing"-the thing you associate them with.

Neo, the comparison is just awful. Terry is dead and that was a very tragic time. I don't think it was very appropriate, that's all.

This week

shtick
n. Slang

1. A characteristic attribute, talent, or trait that is helpful in securing recognition or attention: waiters in tropical attire are part of the restaurant's shtick.
2. An entertainment routine or gimmick.

No it doesn't. It's just gimmicky. He's schtick in the same way I think Kristin Chenoweth is schtick (though I'm cringing that I'm comparing the two). She's just doing her thing, and it's what's natural to her, but it's kind of gimmicky anyway.

Yep, Taylor's full of shtick!

True, you're right.
#2270

This week

There were good things about Katherine and there were good things about Taylor. There were bad things about Katherine and there were bad things about Taylor. In my opinion it was Apples and Oranges and it came down to how many people liked Apples and how many people liked Oranges. It wasnt so much a competition as a musical taste/personality taste opinion poll.
#2271

This week

Neo's right :)
#2272

This week

to say that Clay Aiken and Carrie Underwood are the most talented when Prince and Dionne Warwick were on the stage shows a complete disregard for two major icons in music history. It doesn't matter how old they are now or where they are in their careers. Clay and Carrie can only dream of achieving what they have, for they never will.

#2273

This week

Dionne DID sound pretty bad though.
#2274

This week

You're right Jane. I retract the "most talented" statement and insert the following: I thought that Clay and Carrie had the best vocal performances of the night and were perhaps the best singers (at the present time) on the stage all night.

thanks, neo-I might have actually agreed with you but I didn't think Clay sounded very good tonight. I was a fan of Clay but tonight, well, I don't like his appearance now nor his vocals.
