Posted: 3/9/07 at 11:31pmYes, the top 10 go on tour. The only good thing about top 12 is that you get to work with stylists, guest judges, and have your name/face splashed all over the media for at least a week.

Posted: 3/13/07 at 9:06pmWhy don't they just crown Melinda the winner now and get it over with? One hour into the show and almost every performance other than Melinda’s is a complete mess. And don't these kids get any guidance as to what songs to pick. I mean, I know they had to choose a Supremes/Diana Ross song this week, but come on... Sanjaya singing Ain't No Mountain High Enough??? With his whisper thin voice, why didn't he choose one of her insipid ballads? No. The insipid ballad goes to Chris. Really... what gives?

Posted: 3/13/07 at 9:54pmI enjoyed Melinda, Blake, and Jordin. I think Blake needs to change it up and sing more or else he's in trouble.

Posted: 3/13/07 at 10:08pmI was thrilled with Lakisha's song choice. And dress. I loved her dress.

Posted: 3/13/07 at 10:20pmLakisha was excellent, although my vote for best performance of the night goes to Melinda. And Blake needed to be knocked down a few pegs, which he was. He's a little too cocky for my taste. And I thought his "updated" version of (drawing a blank) was dreadful and self-indulgent.

Melinda, Lakisha............1 and 2. If not, my Idol days are over. Melinda should record a CD.....right now. I'll buy it.
Edit: Sorry....Paula is whacked out.

I'm officially over Chris. He sings through his nose and tonight I couldn't stand the sound of his voice.
I think Melinda and Lakisha were equally superb tonight. I normally like Melinda better but as the judges said, Lakisha didn't oversing, and was in control.
All the guys sucked tonight, I thought. And Sanjaya simply cannot sing. He's there because he's pretty as I said already once before!

Posted: 3/13/07 at 11:02pmI really enjoyed Chris Sligh tonight but Melinda is hands down far and away the best... and who does Gina think she is? She's terrible...

Posted: 3/13/07 at 11:10pmWait a minute-I posted before it was over. Jordin was fabulous! I also put her in the top three. She's gorgeous but more important she can sing as beautifully as she looks. And I love a good belter!

With the obvious exception of Melinda and Lakeisha, this is the worst group of "singers" they have EVER had on this show.
It really did not help that they were straddled with horrid Diana Ross songs. This evening really pointed up the fact that all of her songs were written for a woman who cannot sing. They are all BORING songs with absolutely no range. Every one of them. And the piss poor performances only made that even more obvious.
I also thought it was pushing it to call God Bless The Child a "Diana Ross song." Kind of like calling Over the Rainbow a Judy Davis song.

Posted: 3/14/07 at 12:04amWTF was up with Blake's arrangement? Is that the way the song is noramlly arranged cause it was wretched. and his performance wasn't that great. Chris R was pretty bad. Sanjaya is just fun to watch each week to see which horribly effeminate hair style he'll have next. Phil Stacey has been in my bottom 3 since the beginning. That first performance that everyone loved i couldnt stand. Melinda seemed to be off a little tonight but still rocked the house. Gina sounds like Pink with a cold (keep in mind i LOVE pink so that wasn't meant as an insult to her). Lakisha was great. Chris Sligh wasn't bad, but simon was right, he needs the glasses back. I really love Jordin's voice. Stephanie improved greatly from last week. Haley will be around for a while, but will have no impact on the competetion at all. She'll likely make it to the top 6 and then will be promptly forgotten by all when she is eliminated. Was that everybody? If not, they clearly weren't good enough to be there.

Posted: 3/14/07 at 12:24amI think Lakisha could jus b so much better. Melinda is not only a singer, but a song stylist. If Lakisha connected more with material shoe probably would be as good as everyone says she is.

Melinda, Lakeisha - both fab, my favorites too.
I like Stephanie's style and her look. And she's a pretty good singer. Last night wasn't her best. Blake is cocky, but he's my favorite guy right now. Jordin is gorgeous.
Who's going home? I say Sanjaya should, but he's too "cute" to be sent packing. I think he'll be getting sympathy votes. It may be him, or may be Haley?
I think Brandon, and perhaps Gina, are on thin ice too. Maybe not this week, but next week.

Posted: 3/14/07 at 10:01amFor a professional back-up singer Brandon sure has a lot of pitch problems. I would think a good ear would be the number one talent that you would look for if hiring someone just for vocal support.

Brandon is also a bad performer. Boring, boring, boring. He's the one I'm most sad about because I think he has a really nice voice. He's a perfect example of "It's not just about the voice."
I think he's going home tonite.

As much as I love Mindy Doo, I don't think I"ll be watching this year. It's a really sad bunch.
Lakisha is good too, but I'm just not loving her like Melinda.
Otherwise, a pretty unremarkable group. Some, even awful. I don't get Chris Richardson's appeal AT ALL. Simon hit it on the head when he said basing it on voice alone, it was terrible.
I have mixed feelings on Blake. I think he's the most current and modern voice there, but he lacks in the likability factor and the beatboxing drives me insane.
Just not feeling the Idol love this year.

Didn't get to see all the performances last night, but here's what I thought about what I saw:
Lakisha--very nice, strong performance. Again, smart to pick a song that's not completely tied to one performer (even if it was Diana Ross night!)
Blake---Anyone else keep hearing the 80's Bananarama remake during his performance? I think I liked theirs better.
Stephanie---eh....she does nothing for me. She's got a good voice, but she doesn't wow me.
Chris R--His tone annoys me. And I can't remember what he sang...so it must not have been that great.
Jordin--I think I'm the only person who thought this was her worst performance yet. I thought she was constantly (and noticably) switching registers, sounding shaky and slightly off pitch. I think she's a great performer but I thought last night was terrible.

Wendy, Kim Wylde was the one who recorded "Keep Me Hangin' On" in the 80s...and Blake took an almost indestructable song and ruined it.
I like Jordin alot, but that was such a terrible song!

Eh. I dislike this year overall.
Melinda and Lakisha were, of course, really good as expected (funny how Simon said Melinda reminds him of a young Gladys Knight--I've said the same thing) but I wasn't overwhelmed or excited and--sorry--I just don't consider "God Bless the Child" to be a Diana Ross song. Melinda is a more intelligent performer than Lakisha. But I think there have been better female vocalists on the show in past seasons.
Between her work with The Supremes and her solo stuff, there's a pretty big catalog of material and I wished the contestants had chosen better songs on the whole. I was sad to see Diana's disco era being virtually ignored (couldn't Stephanie have chosen something better than "Love Hangover?") No "Upside Down?" No "I'm Coming Out?" Bleah.
Gina shouted and she still rubs me the wrong way. I hate when people think they're better than they actually are at something which, in her case, is singing. No, she's not awful, but she is far from the rock goddess she thinks she is. And it irritates me.
Blake at least TRIED to be interesting. He's been better but it was fun to watch.
Haley is a Sominex commercial. Seriously--is she even good enough to be cast in a school play? I can't stand her! I hate that Simon gave her some praise at the end. I didn't think she deserved it.
God did Chris Sligh butcher that arrangement or what?! I LOVE "Endless Love"...it takes me back to my "Love's Baby Soft" years.
Chris S. has my favorite singing voice this season...the one I'd most enjoy listening to on a recording. I have a thing for those very melodic, strong boy voices, though. He was a huge disappointment and needs to get his sh-t together. I hope he doesn't get sent home.

I can't say I'm really wowed by any of the men.
The songs that they had to sing had a lot to do with those poor performances last night, I think. Let's hope they pick a better subject than Diana Ross next time.

They should have played "I'm Coming Out" during Ryan's intro.
Spidey, you totally should have tried out!

Faves of the night were Melinda, Blake, and LaKisha.
Yes, Melinda and LaKisha are the singers of the show. Blake is doing something different--very pop and contemporary. It's apples and oranges to compare him to the other two. I do agree that Blake needs to show off his voice more, which is really nice.*
However, I still feel that Melinda is the best all around--musicality, persona, confidence, star power, etc.
I also respected Chris Sligh's attempt to update his song even though it was a failure. I respect any of them that try to be an artist and not just give us more karoake. And this is why I love Blake.
*How do you guys think a Justin Timberlake or Bjork or Robbie Williams or Kylie Minogue or ________ would fare on this show? Against a Melinda or LaKisha?
My guess is they would have been ragged on pretty hard. But, this is why I think someone like Blake will definitely have a shot at a career no matter how this goes down.
