That's so pathetic yet so damn amusing all at once.
I'm getting a great kick out of reading the blog responses.

Posted: 3/22/07 at 1:32amthis show is ridiculous. How are Sanjaya and Hailey still on it? Living in the dorms, a group of people watch it in my room (I never used to watch it). I can't believe how good they think some of these people are. Don't get me wrong, there are a few that are very talented. In general though, take just about any real musical theater broadway star and they could sing circles around all the contestants in the Top 12.

"DId you see that little girl crying last night? That's who voting for Sanjaya. And they love him. "
Then most teenager girls are tone-deaf.
He has to be one of the worst contestants since JPL.

I posted this in another thread. The quote comes from the other thread as well:
"I heard on the radio this morning that a lot of other radio stations are holding contests to see if their listeners could make the worst idol [Sanjaya] win."
That's terrible. I watch American Idol, but the competition has gone downhill starting season 3. The only real Idol is Kelly Clarkson. Although we hear Carrie Underwood's name a lot (I know she's popular in the country world) Kelly's probably the one who's had the most success. Clay has had a lot of success too, even though he didn't win. But most of the competitions after that have turned out to be a joke, putting people through who have no talent.
I mean, okay...I didn't think Stephanie was going to win; however, I think she got voted off too early. She had one bad week. Sanjaya's had bad weeks, well, every week. He should've been one of the first to go.
This is why producers should limit the number of votes to at least five votes, maybe even lower. They're so worried about breaking calling records so it makes it look like the show is more popular than it actually is. Sure, they get 30 million votes, but how many of those votes were duplicates from the same person? How many viewers used automated dialing?

Sorry I'm late to the party but I just caught up on the episodes. I am nuts about Lulu and was thrilled to see her back on TV. Of course, her voice isn't what it was when she was a teenager, but she still performed with a lot of heart and soul last night and I think she was a terrific coach! She's in great shape and looked good as a blonde...kind of a cross between Olivia Newton John and Hillary Clinton.
Garland's reference to Sanjaya as the South Asian Shaun Cassidy is hilarious! Yeah he's a little ridiculous, but I really enjoyed him last night for the pure entertainment value. Hayley may have been better than she usually is but that's not saying a hell of a lot. You can tell where she lost her breath. She really needs to go. I can't stand her. Shut up, Gina. Lakisha was better than Simon gave her credit for but I could take it or leave it. Melinda sang well but I am very distracted by her non-existent neck. She doesn't really do it for me, though I appreciate her talent.
Thought Jordin and Blake stole the show. Everyone else was pretty forgettable.

Posted: 3/22/07 at 3:32pmThis Sanjaya business is ridiculous. I guess I'm going to have to actually begin voting. I like the way Simon states that he will quit if Sanjaya wins this. Sanjaya's in this because Simon Cowell put him there!

I felt so bad for Stephanie. I didn't think you would win but she definitely went to soon. Neither she nor Chris deserved to be in the bottom two.
I personally am ready for Phil to go. I can't stand looking at him. I felt so uncomfortable when he was singing the other night. I was like, "I don't believe you. I don't believe that you believe you are that cool. And you aren't."

So I bought Elliott's CD yesterday. I'm listening to it now. It's pretty good. I'm not loving all the songs yet, but the boy's voice is so beautiful.
A lot of mid-tempo ballady time songs, but some good songs, too, including his version of "A Song For You" that he performed on Idol last year.

Posted: 3/28/07 at 9:59amI thought the entire show last night was a bust. Lakisha and Melinda were good as usual. Everyone else was just kind of so so or bad. I thought the song choices were terrible. In my opinion, none of those songs were for real singers. It didn't look as thought Gwen Stefani actually coached them. I was bored.

Stefani looked so bored, too. I am sure she spent about an hour total with them and just listened to their songs one time and said the first thing that came to her mind for the camera.
Haley's gone tonight, if you ask me.

"Haley's gone tonight, if you ask me."
I certainly hope so! I would rather be entertained by the delicious tragedy that is Sanjaya than listen to that pageant princess.
Phil was probably the best that he ever was, but he looks like he needs a blood transfusion.
Melinda and Lakisha--same old, same old. They're reliably good singers (Melinda is better) but I'm getting bored. Lakisha has dead eyes. There have been better female R&B singers on Idol...I think her voice has been overpraised by the judges because it's a lackluster crop overall. Melinda is hard to look at, too. No neck...it gets to me. She's more polished than Jordin, but Jordin's vocal LAST WEEK has been my favorite female performance all season. Last night she was decent. She's a diamond in the rough.
Honestly? I find that Blake is the only one I'm ever really looking forward to watching. I would pay to see him in concert for two hours right now. Love him.
I actually thought Gina was the best last night, and I've never liked her before.
I've always stuck up for Sligh because I loved his voice, but he sucked last night and I'm noticing he doesn't connect with the audience at all. He wants to come across as this snarky smartass, but his insecurities are really showing. I hope he can get his act together.

I was fascinated that Stefani kept saying she wanted to the singers to sing the melody, as that flies in the face of pretty much everything AI is about.
Sligh was a mess less last night. I suspect he was sick, because of the comments he made in his pre-song interview and because he didn't look all that great last night. He, like many of the singers who grace the stage, don't seem to be able to withstand any sort of criticism, however benign. He's a big one for always having an excuse when he's not up to par.
I like that Melinda seems to be taking the praise and compliments more in stride now, because after a point it was going to be ridiculous for her to not understand how well she's been going over.
I've heard the LaKisha dead eyes criticism before, but I do find her really likable. I liked how she did "Diamonds Are Forever" last week.
I see the appeal of Blake, but he just doesn't do it for me.

While Jordin has considerably grown on me, last night's performance was not vote worthy.
My favorites last night were Gina, Phil, and Melinda. Blake, I don't know...he's been losing steam with me. But many thanks for no beatboxing during the Cure last night.
Here's my favorites, in order:
1) Melinda
2) Jordin
3) Gina (yes, there's a little Chicagoland support there)
4) Blake
5) LaKisha
6) Phil
7) Chris Sligh
Sanjaya (for the entertainment value)
9) Chris Richardson (I can't stand that nasally voice)
10) Haley
6)

I didn't understand Jordin's song choice last night, but I thought she pulled it off really well.
Gina was great last night too, I'm hoping she stays around for a while.
I was bored with the rest.

shameless, Jordin had no effect on me at all until last week ("I Who Have Nothing"). I have watched that performance over ten times since. Gorgeous.
She was okay last night to me. I think she was just trying to have fun with the theme. Why did Melinda and Lakisha sing Donna Summer songs? I love Donna Summer, and they both sounded great. I'm not trying to box her in and say that Gwen can't be a huge D.S. fan, but it was weird to see it lumped in as an "influence." The Cure, The Police, etc.--those tunes were really cool (even though Chris S. f--ked up) and I hoped the rest would follow suit. It's the closest Idol will ever come to a New Wave Night. I wish someone would have sang an Elvis Costello song. Sligh may haved fared better with "Alll-ithon..."

I think Sligh is the one to go tonight.
I was very pleasantly surprised and impressed with Phil and Gina (even though Gina's dress was atrocious).
I was a bit disappointed in Blake. it's a great song and he didn't do it justice. I have to give him props for choosing The Cure though. I just think he might have done a better job with one of The Cure's more upbeat selections - perhaps "Why Can't I Be You" or "Lovecats."

I agree. I like Chris, but I feel that between him and Phil (unless someone else did a Police song and I missed it), Phil did the better job. And my mom really likes Phil so I hope he sticks around a bit longer.
I loved how Blake's outfit seemed to match the song. He has a beautiful voice, but I wish he'd bring back the beat box.

peach, I love Lovecats.
I think Blake just wanted to do something different, which is why he picked a moody, introspective love song (although I would have killed to have seen him sing a Howard Jones tune!)
Sometimes these judges don't respond unless you go all Celine on them.
