My JESUS, My Savior, Lord there is none like You.
JESUS, JESUS, JESUS, JESUS, JESUS, JESUS
Oh, I'm sorry, is this making you "uncomfortable" in any way?
Sheesh, get over it.
Shout to the Lord is one of the most well known songs in the World. and it's just stupid for the producers NOT to use it. They just pulled in millions of Christian viewers who will download that song.
It's also stupid to complain about hearing it. Hmm, why exactly does the song make you uncomfortable? Could it be.......???
and another thing that's stupid is thinking they were "forced" into singing this song. Until I see the headline "Idol walks off show after being forced to sing Christian song"
but, oh well. It's only fair that you all continue to complain about it just like all the Christians have been complaining about all the secular songs.....what's that? the HAVEN'T been complaining??
oh, um .............
nevermind

No folks, THAT is what a JERK sounds like.
It probably makes people uncomfortable because they are not CHRISTIAN and they imagine what it would feel like to sing a song that is so specifically CHRISTIAN in scope. Like, if they were JEWISH and DID NOT BELIEVE JESUS IS GOD and had to make a choice of singing that song on TV or making a scene and blowing their chance to be a star on American Idol.
IT's sort of like those people who organize thousands of complaints when someone shows their Butt on TV or makes a joke that offends their Christian sensibility. I wish they's GET OVER IT TOO.

And I'm curious- on what planet is that song "One of the most well-known songs in the world?" It's well-known in evangenical christian circles, but if you want to talk sales, it doesn't compare with say "Running with the Devil" or "Everyday is Halloween."
I'm Jewish and I've never heard that song before. When they announced the title I figured it was a religious song, and honestly couldn't believe they would have them sing that on a show that is supposed to be the very definition of mainstream entertainment. I actually did find it somewhat offensive, regardless of what religion the performers are, that on a show watched by MILLIONS of people, children included, a song that so clearly is of a religious nature would be used as an all-encompassing theme. Whether or not it was intended, there is an undercurrent of evangelicalism at play there - and considering how impressionable much of the audience is (the pre-teens and teens) I'm surprised that the producers would play that card.
On another note, I don't know if they were forced into it or not, but from what I've heard and read, that show is as carefully orchestrated as a military strike - there is no WAY the Idols had any say in what songs they sing during group performances - otherwise do you honestly think some of them would be performing the dreck that they've done the last couple of weeks??

Jason you said it much better than I. Thanks
That's what happens when I get po'ed
I think it's a little odd that they've been heavily featuring Christian songs. I'm not offended because I couldn't care less, but I don't get why they'd do that at the risk of offending millions of non Christian viewers.
Dolly sang a song about Jesus last week, right? And the contestants did also. Now, again this week. What's up with that?
I, for one, found it ironic that a show called American IDOL sang "Shout to the Lord"...
Okay, the Aussie Gubba is gone! Now we just have to get rid of the Mick, and this can be a proper AMERICAN Idol
Expect My God is an Awesome God in the next couple weeks.
And then I demand a chorus of "I had a little dreidel."
Well, that wouldn't be Christian. That would only piss off the atheists. I think if atheists get pissed-off at the mention of God, then they really aren't atheists. They're just afraid wannabes. Because if they really were atheists, God wouldn't be important enough to piss then off when mentioned.
I'm not exactly pissed off at this song. I think it's a great song and I sang it a lot when I went to church. I actually found myself humming some of it.
It pisses me off because it seems like this show is being geared to the Christians. Of course this is Fox we're talking about, so it's not a huge surprise.
They have no room to complain about a song choice. Isn't this a job for them? They have to do what they're told to do or they can leave. It's as simple as that.
I'm all up for religious freedom. People can worship whoever they want. I just don't it want crammed down my throat.
my super Christian straight roommate had to tell me that song was popular. i just thought it was garbage....silly me!
¤waits for Blessed Assurance to bring down the house¤
It is a very popular song. It's been around for over a decade. I sang it in a wedding 10 years ago.
They sang and recorded this song for charity. In my opinion, if it raises money they can sing whatever. It can only do good.
There are a lot of people who don't listen or buy secular music who will buy this song. I think it was an attempt to reach another demographic and raise more money for a worthy cause.
I don't think it's anything to get all up in arms about.

My head is still spinning from watching two and a half hours, on Idol Gives Back, of unspeakable misfortune, poverty, and pandemic, followed by a WORSHIP song about how amazing "God" is and how much he loves us.
While I fiercely agree with the right to believe it, I personally will never understand how this can make sense to anyone.

Nice try Joe, but do yourself some Googling before you make up things.
STTL has been recorded dozens and dozens of times, by many, many different artists, and continues to be the most sung song in churches world wide.
Just because some of you here haven't darkened the threshold of a church door because you know once you walk in you would burst into flames, turn to dust, and then that dust would turn to flies that swarm as fast as they can back outside only to reach daylight and burst into flames again and finally die, and haven't heard this song or know its popularity because of the above scenario, doesn't mean it's not well known.
More known than the 2 examples you gave.....combined.

God has given man all the tools to fix the above. He just has to do it.
Oh, f*ck off, voiceanth or whoever you are.
Question: If someone created a screen name called "ih8honkeez" or such, how long would it be allowed to stand?
And fyi, this "stkbndle" worked for several years as a church pianist, for a conservative congregation in Texas, no less. One that sang the very song in question at times, in fact. Not only did he not burst into flames upon opening the door, but he also got along quite well with the congregation, all of whom were more than aware he was a "stkbndle."

Waching all that made me donate. At least we can do something to help.

Yet another example of the millions of morons who are destroying society in the very name of raising it up. Not everyone is a Christian. I'm sorry, it's just true. And while I'm NOT Christian, I'm PRETTY sure that those who truly believe in the religion SHOULD be accepting of other faiths or even the right not to believe as the central tenant is to love your neighbor. The religious right continues to eat away at the fabric of what made this country great in the first place while continuing to be completely deluded themselves. And buddy, if you came on HERE to preach, you are SO in the wrong place.
I love when "Christians" prove they aren't actually Christians when they open their big dumb mouths.

Yeah whatever. What the hell is his screen name supposed to mean any way? I know he hates something but can't figure out what. I asked myself "What Would Jesus Hate?" but couldn't think of anything except fake Christians.
I think she hates stick bundles.
