Well, Pab and TheatreDiva90016, please enlighten me.
I may not wear "naive" well, but it is genunine. I know practically nothing about the Birkhead case.
What I know is this:
He claims he was told at one point that he was the father.
He has tried to have a DNA test done to settle the issue.
A request for the DNA test was granted by a court in Los Angeles.
Smith refuses to allow the test.
Please let me know if there is more to the story. If he has receive large cash settlements to stop the forcing the issue. I will change my mind about what he is doing.
Again, Please list the motivations and the PROOF. I'm more than willing to believe ill of him as you two do.

"It is terrible and sad when anyone dies from addiction. Whether it be a personality on TV or your own family member."
Hamlet - maybe people just agree with this statement - which was one of yours, by the way, when her son died last September.

Posted: 2/8/07 at 6:00pmEmpathy for a troubled soul is NOT why the media has had a field day with Anna Nicole Smith, and I don't think that anyone could convince me that it was. I separated those paragraphs so as not to imply that I'm indifferent to her death, which I'm not...only perplexed by how she got to where she was beforehand with the media. And no, I haven't really cared over the past few months who the father of her baby is, nor do I think that that makes me a bad person. It's sad to hear that she's dead, but I don't know where the public's fascination with her came from. I almost get the feeling that they knew they were watching a train wreck in the making.

i suffer in silence, you see.
that's because you're ugly, hwb, and no one cares about ugly people. save your pennies, have some surgery and then we'll care. until then, remember silence is golden.

On a lighter note. I am currently taking bets on how many times the word SAD has been used during this thread.
Any takers?
.. and NO, I haven't counted yet.

Exactly, sweetestsiren. It's the same reason so many people slow to a crawl and bend their necks to look at an accident on the freeway.
I will never understand that bizarre ritual.

"Empathy for a troubled soul is NOT why the media has had a field day with Anna Nicole Smith, and I don't think that anyone could convince me that it was"
HELLO!
YOU asked why we should care-because she had an E show? My answer was that we care because we had empathy for a troubled soul. Not so hard to understand. This thread has gotten ridiculous. Glad I'm off to work. Where I'm sure we'll talk about this some more.
papa-LOL!

2373 ANYONE dying is a tragic loss.
Hmmm does that include the deaths of serial killers, child rapists, dictators who enslave, torture and murder their own country men and women?
Do you feel pangs of sadness when these people die, 2373?

I take everyone's opinion into consideration, especially the ignorant. That would be you, ignorant...feel free to break out the thesaurus and find a more appropiate word if you'd like. Ignorant.

Best12, I have no influence when these people die or live.
What give me the right to "judge?"
Being human.
I make judgements everyday on many varied issues. If everyone was honest with themselves, they would admit it too.
I don't happen to find child rapists, dictators, serial killers and such people worthy of my admiration. When they die, I'm not sad.
I do not hunt them down and kill them, but I find them the worst examples of human and have no sadness when God take them away.

I wish wall-to-wall coverage were given to really pressing matters; the Iraq war, the trial of Scooter Libby, the cowardice of some of our senators, the intimidation by our executive branch and the dismantling of our Constitution
I feel shocked about Anna Nicole's death but I am much more shocked about the state of our country.
Why is Larry King devoting a show to Anna's death when we will not know a cause of death until tomorrow or later?
I do feel sad about her death and I can't really say why. I didn't know her. I didn't think much of her public persona. But she was a charming "drunk." She didn't come off as mean spirited. It is sad but...I've said enough and not too well either.

Posted: 2/8/07 at 6:19pmPerhaps it wasn't clear, but I meant a larger "we" as in "we as a society" -- why do "we" tune in to gawk at the life of a woman who is basically famous for nothing other than marrying a geriatric millionaire and...being a mess? I think that it's a very sad story, but I don't understand why it's entertainment. It is, as b12b pointed out, somewhat like needing to see a car wreck on the other side of the road. But maybe we're just not going to agree on this.

WalkOn--don't presume to know how I judge or how I value human life. You would be mistaken to do that with any of us. "Honestly."
I absolutely criticize and judge the life actions of other human beings. I do not judge any of them in death. Call me crazy, but I'm just not that omnipotent.

Purely theory, but I think we do this because it makes us feel better about ourselves.
Our lives may suck, we may be in the middle of a rough patch but at least we're not as messed up as HER. Same theory with the car wreck. It's tragic, it's awful, but thank heavens it's not happening to me.

"The practical test for Narcissistic Personality Disorder is that with normal people, no matter how difficult, you can get some improvements, at least temporarily, by saying, essentially, "Please have a heart." This doesn't work with Narcissists; in fact, it usually makes things worse. It's impossible to overemphasize the importance of Narcissists' lack of empathy. It colors everything about them."
