Anna Nicole Smith has died

Posted: 2/8/07 at 5:02pmSomeone here mentioned this pre-empting Jennifer Hudson on Larry King Live. Just checked, his show today is about Anna Nicole. I am really sorry to hear about her death, but this is going to take over the news and entertainment shows for the next 3 or 4 days. No reason to have it on Larry King when it is going to be everywhere all night.

I don't know where theminutepast is coming from, but I can't honestly say "I'm sad" either
Today 4,000 children will die of starvation. As they do every day. That to me is really sad news.
I didn't know Smith... her antics were entertaining, but I can't say she touched my life in any special way.
As for her child, considering Smith's history of drug use, questionable mental state and seemingly neglectful parenting skills, my guess is the child would be better off in a stable, nurturing and loving environment.
If Bikhead is the father, perhaps he can provide that. Also, I admire his determination to take responsiblity for his child - should it be his child.
As as for the cry that "no one" deserves this... well, perhaps Smith didn't, but there a LOT of evil people in this world that deserve this or worse.

I'm sorry but I really don't care.
She was a white trash buffoon; I felt sorry for her son but not her.

"If Bikhead is the father, perhaps he can provide that. Also, I admire his determination to take responsiblity for his child - should it be his child."
Mr. Bikhead should not assume that he can take possession of the baby anytime soon.
a) It has not been proven that he is in fact the father.
b) The baby is in The Bahamas being cared for by the mother of the Government Minister responsible for Immigration, who was a personal friend of Ms. Smith.
I know that some Americans feel that they can do anything in any country where they travel but Mr. Bikhead will soon realize that The Bahamas is a country with laws and everyone there has to follow them.

That girl is a hot mess
That's what she is.
She's got them heebie's and jeebie's from
Moon-shine and cheap wine
and reefer and candy cane.
Or is it the nasty relations
From earthly sensations that put her in her pain?

"She was a white trash buffoon; I felt sorry for her son but not her."
and that says volumes about your character fflag......it must be wonderful to have such empathy for people
I feel sorry for her, rough life, and just never got it right.....
and walk, 4000 starving children dying and her death are not apples to apples, to construe them as such really is ridiculous.
A sad, rough..and perhaps wasted life is always something to be sad about, and I think that's what most of us are sad about.
There but for the grace of God go us.

pab, Birkhead is the biological father or not, regardless of the laws of the US or Bahamas.
I admire a man who owns up to his parental responsibilites, especially when so much is against him.
Elphaba, I was giving an example of the kind of news I find "sad." I was NOT making an apple to apples comparison.
YOU may not find the death of 4000 childen dying a day worthy of pangs of sadness. But I do.
I however have no such pangs for the death of SMITH. Thats just me and I explained why. Period.
Please read more carefully. There is a BIG difference between what I wrote and what you were willing to hear.

"I admire a man who owns up to his parental responsibilites, especially when so much is against him. "
And it never occurred to you that he might have other motives?

I feel bad for her... and I don't think her death needs to be turned into some sort of grotesque contest with anyone here deciding who is more worthy to have received sympathy in death. What kind of a sick comparison is that?? Are you really judging people's lives that way? Honestly, I find that notion far more disgusting than anything she ever did or said in her short, sad, overly-promoted life.
She had beauty (well, at least at various points in her life) but she did not have brains, and the combination tortured her. She was given opportunities and made bad decisions, and it came back to haunt her every time.
I think it was a life of too many drugs, weight fluctuations and major depression.

I have to say, I never, ever understood the media's fascination with this woman, and the paternity spectacle over the past few months has been utterly ridiculous. We care why, exactly? Because she had an E! reality show for a while?
Still, I'm always sorry to hear about anything like this -- I just don't understand what made her so newsworthy.

Posted: 2/8/07 at 5:48pmWhy is there a thread on this? She was a person that none of us knew personally. Her death is as saddening as any arbitrary stranger in the obituaries.

"We care why, exactly? "
An E Show? No, that isn't why we cared for her. We felt some empathy for a troubled soul. You just didn't, that's all.

Hamlet!?
Don't you understand?
We are all crushed and need to let our feeling out.
Did you see her nipple in the Superbowl halftime?

Posted: 2/8/07 at 5:56pmWell, then by all means TheatreDiva....let your feelings out..let them out. I prefer to turn up the volume of Beth Fowler lamenting the sadness of not crying out loud. I suffer in silence, you see.
