See, and I would watch TEMPLE OF DOOM before watching RAIDERS.
I'm more of an Ernest Goes to Camp girl than Jail. I mean, he sings to a turtle!
I love "Jail" because it's less overtly silly than "Camp." It's still plenty silly, but I feel like the presence of Nash goes a long way in balancing Ernest out. And the scene where he goes through his various personas in the mirror makes me laugh just thinking about it.
Yes, I'm willing to have a critical discussion about the "Ernest" movies, so let it never be said that I'm totally elitist.
However any point you might make would be automatically nullified by your acceptance of Philip Seymour Hoffman as a decent actor.
Yes, just like anyone with half-descent taste and a functioning critical-thinking brain... unlike those who think Sandra Bullock and Julia Roberts are genuinely accomplished actresses with range and not mediocre cornball show ponies who pass off facial expressions for acting.
See, everyone? See? See what we do to one another?!
It's unhealthy.
I think Ernest Goes to Jail went too far putting him in the electric chair (even if the outcome was comical and a return to silliness). Ernest was beaten in Camp and then, miracle of miracles, survived being shot at thrice. Still, that is a less aggresive image than seeing an icon of family friendly movies in an electric chair. It's off-putting.
Althought not as off-putting as the entirety of Ernest Scared Stupid.
I do also wish that Auntie Nelda could have somehow made her way to Camp. She is a highlight of the Ernest world.

I don't like Julia Roberts or Phillip Seymour Hoffman, so I don't know who to side with!
I was just digging around on this since it's been so long since I thought of it.
There were 10 "Ernest" movies, with the 11th in production when he died.
10!!!
Any of the "Beach Party" movies - including "Back to the Beach". They're fluff but they're goofy fun.
I also have a odd love for "The Pirate Movie". It's not great and probably killed a few acting careers. But I just love it and the cheesy 80's songs.
How about this for soapy trash - THE BEST OF EVERYTHING. Or am I going too far back?
Mine would have to be Straight Talk, starring Ms. Dolly Parton and her boobs. The plot is just so ridiculous that it's always my favorite escape when I'm feeling down.

Good old BEST OF EVERYTHING -- great trash fun. Where would Jacqueline Susann have been without Rona Jaffe to rip off? Joan Crawfod telling Hope Lange where to put manuscripts on her desk: "Here. Not here, not here. HERE."
I listen to the STRAIGHT TALK soundtrack all the time.
Me too. Particularly "Somebody's Gotta Do it... Do it."
You mean "Dirty Job"? I love it b
I agree "guilty pleasures" tend to be movies that most people find "bad" or "medicocre" but you adore. But, it could be said that if you like a "good" movie more than the average person (watching it whenever it's on, being a fanboy/obsessed etc.) than a "good" movie could move into the guilty pleasure category. Also, a "guilty pleasure" is not the same as a "cult" movie. Again, your appreciation is more passioante than other people's.
I can't believe I put so much thought into that....
Mahogany - Car ride with Tony Perkins
Death Becomes Her - NOW a warning!?!?!
The Beastmaster - Marc Singer in a loin cloth
Bunny Lake is Missing - Keir Dullea + Carol Lynley = weird
The Stuff - crazy
Any Hammer movie from the late sixties to the early seventies when they added lurid quasi-eroticism to the horror.
Clue
I almost forgot what's probably my favorite guilty pleasure: CRIMES OF PASSION
Kathleen Turner at her best.
"China...Blue. That's rather exotic. like something out of Charlie Chan"
Perkins singing "Get Happy". Oh, man...
Ooh! Gotta check out the Tony Perkins ones. He's one of my favorites.

LOST HORIZON -- the musical. Just astonishing.
SKIDOO -- So bad, it's just bad, but with some amazing moments of OMFG astonishment.
THE BIG CUBE -- Lana Turner tries to bond with her swingin' 60s stepdaughter, but things don't quite turn out as planned. A major influence on DIE MOMMIE DIE, which should tell you a lot.
They just released Straight Talk on BD for $7.99.
As soon as I saw Dolly smiling at me I grabbed.
I haven't seen and nothing about it, so I'm psyched that it was mentioned here.
You paid $7.99 for it?? Taz, Best Buy has all of Mill Creek's dvd releases (They release a lot of catalog Touchstone, Hollywood and Dimension titles) for $5.00!
