While they're at it, I'm kinda in the mood for a really juicy Romanov remake. Nicholas and Alexandra maybe?
All good.
What about Mark Rylance?

If you look at the description of Poirot from the book ("He was hardly more than five feet four inches but carried himself with great dignity. His head was exactly the shape of an egg, and he always perched it a little on one side. His moustache was very stiff and military.") you pretty much HAVE To cast Patti LuPone in the part.
L Oy L!
It's already been remade, twice. Once for a TV movie in 2001 with Alfred Molina. Second, the David Suchet series did a version of it in 2010.
Same friend suggested Sharon Stone as Mrs. Hubbard. I like it.
What happened to her? She was on a good roll for 5 minutes fifteen years ago.
I like the idea of Hercule Peron.

My out-of-the-box suggestion for Poirot: James Corden.

Leonardo Di Caprio is playing Rasputin in a big budget film, or so it's been announced.
Bit of a sidetrack, but didn't The Poseidon Adventure remake gross over their budget for the worldwide total gross? I thought I remember reading that. Does that still mean that it didn't make any money if the budget doesn't include additional costs like marketing and so on?
I want to see Julie Andrews in this, because she needs to do something other than write those damned kids books!
The David Suchet version reduced the role of Mrs Hubbard (Piper Laurie) and generally the performances were less charismatic than the 1974 version. However it didn't shy away from the moral dilemmas faced by Poirot in the way that the original did.
I like the idea of someone deeply quirky like Mark Rylance for Poirot much better than someone intrinsically comic like James Corden.
That said, both actors are now on my list of actors I would be interested to see in anything.
PalJoey approves the idea of remaking Orient Express on one condition: that the filmmakers have read all the stories and novels and watch every one of the David Suchet episodes.
Scripps, it was actually Barbara Hershey as Mrs. Hubbard in the Suchet version.
Thank you Reggie.
There was a niggling doubt at the back of my mind as I posted, which I shouldn't have ignored.

I just really hate it when they remake classics. This is one of my favorite movies, and I'd have zero desire to watch a remake, regardless of who's in it.
My dream cast:
David Suchet - Hercule Poirot (his performance deserves to be seen my moviegoing public)
Glenn Close/Kristin Scott Thomas/Judy Davis - Mrs. Hubbard
Paul Giamatti - Bianchi
Isabella Rossellini - Greta
Emily Blunt - Countess Andrenyi
Vincent Cassel - Pierre
Sean Connery - Daniel Craig
John Gielgud - Derek Jacobi
Angela Lansbury - Princess Dragomiroff
James D'Arcy - McQueen
Rachel Weisz - Mary Debenham
Jacki Weaver - Hildegarde
Ray Winstone - Ratchett
Tom Hiddleston - Count Andrenyi
Maybe they can flip the train over and have it fill with water as it bursts into flames.
"Murder on the Poseidon Inferno Express"
David Suchet seems to feel that he has done ALL of Poirot and doesn't need to do anymore.

Suchet will not be reprising his role in any future television versions of Poirot, having filmed every book Christie wrote around the character.
"It's grieving. I'm saying goodbye to a character I've been and have got to know over 25 years… it's goodbye to a best friend as an actor, as someone I've got to know.
"But everything has its time and this is the right time, there are no more Agatha Christie films to make. So that's it."
