Go Fish grossed me out.
ETA: I'm having a dillemma. I can't decide whether to continue watching Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on HBO or to put on Buffy VHS's.
Have you seen Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?
If you've seen it already...Buffy, of course. And I reccommend the post "Christmas Episdoe Finale" episodes, too
Yeah I have. Once in theatres.
Well, I don't have the post-Christmas episodes b/c that's where I stopped my tape.
If someone wants to burn DVDs for me...I'd watch them all...and then it would be nice to have the VHS episodes on DVD...
Honestly, get the DVD box set.
It works out to being about $4.25 a disc when you order the Collector's Set from amazon.com.
Around $1.20 per episode.
And for a show this well-written and acted, that's a new meaning to the term "great deal" It's not much money consideing it is a 40 disc set with 140+ episodes.
And you might find it even cheaper if you shop around.
Or you can do like I did. An ex made off with season 5 and I begged a friend to get it for me for my birthday.
They also show up on Ebay.
I would be so hesitant to loan out a DVD set. ESPECIALLY a Buffy one. I get protective of things.
What kind of guy would up and leave you season 5-less? Just terrible.
Seriously...my current boyfriend pretty much hooked me by having the series set.
...possibly even in triplicate.
And I have genuinely considered importing the series box set they released in England. I know it isn't the way Joss wanted it, but having the last few seasons in widescreen would be nice on the big TV.
Uh, I was 29, he was...19.
he was just a little klepto, I guess, but frankly, he borrowed it and it became an issue of whether or not I could stand to see him for the 5 minutes I'd need to get it back or just break down and get another.
Little klepto?
It became an issue of whether or not you could stand to see him for the 5 minutes?
You'll have to admit, that's an honest mistake...

One of my favourite cast photos...
Wow, how could I forget one of the coolest scenes ever?
Spike: The thing is… I had a speech. I learned it all. Oh, god. She won't understand. She won't understand.
Warren: Of course she won't understand, Sparky. I'm beyond her understanding. She's a girl. Sugar and spice and everything… useless. Unless you're baking. I'm more than that. More than flesh.
Glory: More than blood. I'm… you know, I honestly don't think there's a human word fabulous enough for me. Oh, my name will be on everyone's lips… assuming their lips haven't been torn off. But not just yet. That's all right, though.
Adam: I can be patient. Everything is well within parameters. She's exactly where I want her to be. And so are you, Number 17. You're right where you belong.
Mayor Wilkins: So what'd you think? You'd get your soul back and everything would be Jim Dandy? A soul's slipperier than a greased weasel. Why do you think I sold mine? Well, you probably thought that you'd be your own man and I respect that. But you never will.
Drusilla: You'll always be mine. You'll always be in the dark with me, singing our little songs. You like our little songs, don't you? You've always liked them, right from the beginning. And that's where we're going.
Master: Right back to the beginning. Not the Bang, not the Word. The true beginning. The next few months are going to be quite a ride and I think we're all going to learn something about ourselves in the process. You'll learn you're a pathetic schmuck… if it hasn't sunk in already. Look at you. Tried to do what's right. Just like her. You still don't get it. It's not about right. Not about wrong.
Buffy: It's about power.

Ulgh, that was great...giving me such high hopes for the season
It would have been awfully nice to see the villians all reapper again throughout the season. The First appearing as Buffy did make sense, but having her alone play the part for most of the season came off...cheap. Like, we don't have the time or money to hire more actors.
I don't know that the morphing and deception were used as well as they could have been. And I applaud them trying to use Giles to trick us "Is he or isn't he?" But even that could have been used to better effect. I think they didn't realize how hard it would be to pull off a noncorporeal villian for an entire year.
I still like the season. And it holds up better when you watch it all at once, not once a week stretched over months.
Agreed. In fact, watching the entire series fairly quickly gives you an amazing sense of the scope Whedon was able to accomplish with this show, how each season had its own arc that fit within an arc that really does exist from episode one to espiode -I think - 148. It's brilliant. Even the seasons and singular episodes that seem to lag behind in quality really hold up.
I will say, I was mostly peeved that he went and turned Amy into a sort of jealous, semi-evil witch, especially since, even with her power trip that led Willow to the dark side, she never seemed like she was on the path to becoming her mother.
ooh, which reminds me of a fun piece of continuity, when Oz is watching the eyes move in the cheerleader trophy. Those little touches in an episode really make the show amazing for someone who has seen the series before.
for those who are wondering, ebay is no bargain for those looking for the complete set. without the risk of buying from an unknown source, you can get the dvds from amazon for only slightly higher than the auctions i saw.
Definitely, bwaysinger.
Don't forget Jonathan started out as a character that served as continuity...seeing the same silly character react, showing how we see the same students in high school.
And he's literally listed in Inca Mummy Girl as something like "male Student." And he had his first lines there. I LOVE that he became a character.
He even had his own episode with his own opening credits...
I'm fine with Amy becoming what she was when we last saw her. I don't think it was a matter of deviating from her character.
She wasn't evil early on, no. But she had no problem tricking people and using magic (Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered)
When she was finally no longer Amy the Rat, she had a hugely difficult time readjusting. While she didn't have much screen time to display any anger or resentment that stemmed from that, I have no problem in terms of believability in accepting that she came to be quite a bit darker than high school Amy through dealing with missing years of her life.
And Jonathon goes back all the way. He was in the original presentation reel. He was involved in the show (as an extra, but still involved) before Alyson Hannigan was cast.
Thank god, they replaced that girl playing Willow in the presentation reel!
She just... wasn't right.
But it's still funny how much of the presentation reel WAS right.
Huge amounts of dialogue is reused in the filmed version of the first episode.
I like the scene where Xander walks with Buffy and they identify the various student groups. Even if Clueless did do it better, the Joss dialogue is fun.
