Yea, a lot of the official companions are fluff, but great pictures and official names are always nice.
I have a couple of the "critical" or "academic" books, too. Essays about roles of parents, technology, feminism, religion, sexuality, minorities. Interesting stuff.
Some of it gets pretty serious. Who would have thought a TV show with teenagers could spawn volumes of essays by professors and professional authors like:
"Slaying in Black and White: Kendra as Tragic Mulatto in Buffy the Vampire Slayer"
I can't remember some of the others, I have my books at home. But facinating how intelligent discussion can stem from a TV show that is well-written.
The "Tales of the Slayer" aren't fluff at all, in my opinion!
There's some really good stuff in those books, written by the shows writers and some prestigious authors!
I haven't read the Tales, I was just speaking about the Watcher Guides and Monster Book and Yearbook and such. A nice reference, but no new, exciting or revealing information.
Nice pictures, though.
I have heard good things about the short stories.
I love Buffy and Philosophy! One of my favorite books.
I think the best article was the dude who compared Buffy's love with a classic definition of love. Her love with Riley was intimate love, lacking passion; her love with Spike was passionate love, lacking intimacy/a like for the person, and her love with Angel was the pure, all-encompassing best love *le sigh*
There was also the essay on, I believe, the Nietzchian anti-hero or some such that Faith was.
This thread is making me so sad.
I think I've watched the Series Finale about 15 times, and it still gets me.
Cheno, this thread is to making with the happy! Love the Buffy! Celebrate it and whatnot.
bway- I remember thinking when it was ending, "How will I live without Buffy??"
3 years on, I've somehow managed (though I cannot BELIEVE it's been 3 yrs!).
Ok, I may have to watch "Graduation Day 2" in celebration.
Willow: Man, just ascend already.
hehe! I know there was some dislike of the Mayor, but Harry Groener was so gosh-darn fun that he ranks as my number two fave of the series (playing it close with the Master).
I'm assuming we're talking favorite big bad's, not favorites in general? :-P
Spike and Dru were my favorites. Or Dru if you don't wanna count Spike as he became good, but I loved him and Dru in the second season when they were the big bad so yeah.
But I agree Harry was great!
Really, Faith's journey in that season is just a very intelligent case study on the psychology of it all.
Worst Big Bad...you really need to guess that it's Adam?

Okay, I just read through the past 5 pages of this thread or so and I have to go watch Buffy now, but I can't decide what episode! Restless or Hush or Tabula Rasa....maybe life serial....or maybe Two to Go.....*sigh* decisions, decisions.
PHILIP: You put the beef on the grill, you hit the button, then it beeps. You flip the beef, hit the other button, then it beeps. You put it on the bun... (pauses, thinking) There's not a button for that.
BUFFY: Repeat until insane.
PHILIP: It eliminates variation. Every burger at every DoubleMeat Palace is the same. People don't like variation.
BUFFY: Got it. Variety is the spice of bad.
PHILIP: Mm.
BUFFY: So ... what's the secret ingredient?
PHILIP: It's a meat process.
BUFFY: Well, what does that mean?
PHILIP: It's a process, they do it to the meat.
BUFFY: But, what *is* it?
PHILIP: It's just the name of the process.
BUFFY: (giving up) Oh. Yeah.
Something Blue:
Spike: Don't I get a cookie?
Buffy: No.
Spike: Well, I gotta have something. I still have Buffy taste in my mouth.
Buffy: You're a pig, Spike.
Spike: Yeah, well I'm not the one who wanted "Wind Beneath My Wings" for the first dance.
(He says it loud enough for Giles, Anya, and Xander to hear. They all turn to stare at Buffy from the living room. She looks at all of them)
Buffy: (defensively) That was the spell.
(She's clearly lying. Willow scowls at Spike and shoves a cookie in his mouth)
Ah, the Buffy. In honor of our chat yesterday, I went home and played a little Buffy on the Xbox.
"Ah, the Buffy. In honor of our chat yesterday, I went home and played a little Buffy on the Xbox."
I can trump any feelings of Buffy fanboyness you might have over that by admitting that, while I do not particularly like playing video games, I have WATCHED someone else play BOTH Buffy games just to see the storylines and listen to the voice acting.
Fake Buffy grows on you after awhile, but she doesn't quite get the Whedon dialogue. Most of the rest of the TV cast is present for both games. And you get to hear Amber Benson say inappropriate things as Tara. There are also interview and recording studio clips. Benson gets...really into some of it.
And that makes you feel dirrty.
I think I'm going to listen to my Once More With Feeling CD on my way to work
WYou...let's discuss "Fake Willow" in the 2nd Buffy Xbox game (Chaos Bleeds).
Within 5 minutes of her talking, both my ex and I wanted to reach into the tv screen and strangle the CGI figure, the voice actor behind that atrocity, and the people who thought they should hire some random girl to sound like Alyson Hannigan.
i figured the demographic for this thread will be the best place to ask my question: i need to replace the ear bud headphone on my ipod since it is killing my ears, what kind of headphones are good to get for the ipod?
Alyson Hannigan wanted to do it. I think there was a scheduling thing (American Pie related, if I remember correctly)
That's better than Gellar, who had no intention of being involved past approving her likeness.
But as far as the Fake Willow went...there were a line or two when she sounded Willow-like. And it is those one or two instances where you understand why she was hired. But then...the rest of it...
Was it drug use? She turned Willow's unique phrasing into the way a burn out would talk. And never mind the discomfort of hearing the line about her playing nurse with Tara...over...and over...and over again.
RobbO, I've never used any other headphones than the earbuds, if for no other reason than the fact that all headphones that I've seen "reccommended" on websites and in articles that deal with iPods and MP3 players seem to be ridiculously expensive. Too expensive for me, at least. Can't afford to get them and try them out and then find I don't like them. Not for $40 or $50.
What price range were you looking for?
RobbO, places like Best Buy have these Sony over-the-ear hook earphones that work just fine and cost about $19.
WYou, I agree. She gets one or two decent line deliveries. But jesus H on a cracker, the rest of her lines are nails on a chalkboard. Actually, they're more like having a thousand papercuts on your body and being dipped in alcohol.
I'll have you monsters know that you've cost me a GREAT deal of money. After re-reading the thread, I ordered the whole set.
I will now add you to my list of favorite bad guys. You come right after Dru and the mayor.
Mamie, what can I say? That makes me terribly happy to be the source of your anger.
I LOVE Dru! It's fun to see the actress (Juliet Landau...whom I believe is a somewhat-cousin of Martin, or perhaps niece) in interviews as she speaks with quite the California, animated accent.
tell me about it mamie, i'm trying so hard to not buy the whole damned series but this thread won't die!
