I myself have never been mugged...but I've lived in Hunts Point, South Bronx - so I know how to not get mugged...

Hey Matt- I was mugged at knifepoint not to long ago. It is really scary. I had two guys jump in a elevator after me with a knife so unfortunatly I had no where to run, but I did use self defense and made of with my cell phone and the muggers knife:) I still have scary flashbacks from it though

I'm sorry. That's really scary...I'm confused though, did you just run, or did you hand your wallet and run? I'd freeze in that sort of situation.

I've been pickpocketed, but never mugged (knock on wood). I'm glad you're ok.

Same here, had things stolen out of my bag but never been mugged.
Glad you're ok, Matt. I really wouldn't know what to do in that situation. I guess I would just pee my pants and throw all valuables at him. I don't think I'd have the nerve to just turn around and run away. He might be quicker than me....

How about this...Walking home one night from buying an influential substance, I put my key in the door, took a step inside, and I hear someone behind me telling me to "Stop right there!"
I turn around and there is a man holding a gun at me. I though "Oh My God! I'm being..."
Then the van screeched up behind him, and I realised that it was the cops. He was in plain clothes.
Thus began my adventure to Central Booking in the Bronx - a 24 hour experience.

So glad your ok Matt!!! Never been mugged (thank heavens) but my 13 year old sister was mugged on her way home from school about a month ago. I would never wish it on anyone...

I was once in a restaurant that was robbed. Two guys went from patron to patron, with a gun, and took our wallets, watches, etc. It was extremely scary. In the crooks are stupid department, this was at the Top Of Centre Square, in Philadelphia, which is 40-something stories up. They took the stairs!!!! So, the cops were waiting for them, when they reached the first floor. Glad to hear you didn't get hurt, Matt.

I have not been mugged, but my sister in law was mugged by NYU three time and moved to Chicago and was mugged twice including being hit in the head with a pistol!
She is in VA now, so should be safe.
I do have a sguirrel in my attic which could be another post.

Yes Ebonic...it was tough being the only white boy in Hunts Point. Cops followed me everywhere...talk about racial profiling.

Matt, I'm really sorry to hear your story.
I was mugged several years ago when I lived in southern California. I was teaching school at the time and was mugged as I got out of my car and walked to the school gate. Another car came down the street and a woman got out with a hammer and came at me. I was so startled that I froze and got hit in the hand with the hammer, (just a very slight fracture in a finger), two others got out of the car, but at that point they were welcome to what I had and they grabbed it all. They got my purse with some money, ID and keys, which really freaked me out. But, what got me really mad was that they took my work briefcase with I don't know how many graded papers that I had worked hours on the night before!! ARGH!!
