Anyone see "The Class?"

Roseanne's pilot was extremely tame and the first season was rather pedestrian and unfocused.
And the Golden Girls had a gay cook.

Posted: 9/19/06 at 10:26amhell, even sean maguire's last sitcom "off centre" was better than this show...

I think it's too soon to judge. My initial impression was not overly enthusiastic. The funniest spot was Lina getting ran over with the car chatting on the cell phone, imo. In all fairness, they were trying to develop the characters and pull in all the punch lines, plot out the story, all in about 26 min. So, I'm willing to give it some time.
It's obvious the audience they are trying to draw, which is not unlike many other wacky/edgy, 30's something sitcoms. Time will tell if it gets lost in the shuffle or latches on.
The theater heavy cast is not going to draw on its own with a TV sitcom, imo. So they'd better be sure these characters can capture the crowd, really rope you in and keep you there and the continuing plot better be off the wall funny and unique. Too much predictability will soon become as attractive as watching clouds go by.
But I am very excited for Sam Harris, who was as excited as a puppy with 2 tails when we talked about this in March. (Sam, if you read this, treat yourself to a double chocolate at Trader Joe's. You did good!)

But RobbO, that was because we got to look at Sean Maguire.
(I'm so unqualified to be on this thread. I didn't even see the show, so there could be a Sean Maguire equivalent in this show.)

calvin, the first shot of mr. maguire on "the class" was him in bed, shirtless, with his male lover.
eta: if it's unclear, sean magure is in the cast of "the class."

I tried watching Two and a Half Men several times and never found it funny.
Which episode was it?
The one where Charlie Sheen jokes about womanizing and drinking.
Oh yeah, I loved that one!
Meh...

As Robb said earlier, it's very well-written, directed, and performed. Very tight.
And Roseanne and Friends both had funny, compelling pilots.

Posted: 9/19/06 at 12:11pmi hated FRIENDS but adored ROSEANNE. 2 1/2 is definitely good, but it's not for everyone, just like FRIENDS.
#62re: Anyone see 'The Class?'
Posted: 9/19/06 at 12:20pmI hated Roseanne's premiere, but grew to adore the show. I hated the character of Jackie for the first few episodes...until Roseanne started throwing her weight around and the characters were fleshed out (and they got that wig off Laurie Metcalfe)

I loved Roseanne's pilot. Granted, I had already gone to see her live, and she was incredible.
I remember the pilot being fresh, different, and clever. Of course as time went on and she grew as an actress, and the ensemble began to jell, it only improved.

Posted: 9/19/06 at 12:29pmI liked the pilot DJ better.

YES!
That bitch hired that freak because he looked more like her!
Well, who wants to look like her, anyway?!
That is why I had to go into porn.
I hung out with Dana Plato for awhile, until Willis told me what he was talkin' bout.

perhaps it's my love of alcohol and misogyny towards women that keeps me tuned into the wonderful "taahm" but it's a great show nonetheless.

FOAnatic,
I think this show is hilarious. At first, I thought the premise was horrible, but they really took me and ran with it. It makes me laugh and gets my attention for half an hour. That is impressive. Plus, JTF rocks. That's all there is to it. I'm so glad I saw the OBC of Spelling Bee.
Edited for stupidity
