when coffee prices went up this Spring, I did the math myself & started to make my own coffee at home. The savings are insane. $9 for a 24oz family size dark roast coffee that lasts me an entire month. I haven't been to a Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks in months.

I made a cinnamon dolce syrup and pumpkin spice syrup yesterday. It only takes a teeny bit to turn a normal coffee with milk into a flavored latte. I only do Starbucks when I am on vacation in the US.

As a coffee addict, it's definitely disheartening to think about the impact my habit has on my wallet, haha. Using the right rewards and special offers, however, I typically never pay more than $.99 for iced coffee at Dunkin. I do love Starbucks, though, and believe their coffee is of a higher quality than Dunkin's, but I only stop in once or twice a month now due to their ever-increasing prices.

It doesn't bother me how coffee can add up over the year. Well, first of all, I make my own in the morning, but if I'm in the mood, I'll stop in at a Starbucks and get a tall coffee at $2.12. For those who buy their morning coffee every day, it might be more important to them to have that "fix" than to save that sum at the end of the year. I know it's that important to me!

Before we got a keurig, we got ground in a can . Every time we got a can the number of ounces steadily decreased while the price went up. Sad to say, this applies to almost everything in the supermarket these days- shrinking contents and higher prices.
Number 1 - I do not have a lawn. I assume that remark was made in response to another snotty remark made by Namo.

I have a French press and have made both hot and iced coffee in it. Sometimes I'll want something mid-day as well, and that's when I'll hop over to Starbucks or Blue Bottle. I agree with Jane2 -- I save and I don't, and that's fine! I don't usually get anything too elaborate more than once a month anyway.

We have a tiny coffee shop in town, but I average visiting twice a year. The nearest Starbucks is almost two hours away. We have Wayne's Coffee as our big chain, but it's costly and not that great, in my opinion. I prefer what I make at home. Swedes drink a LOT of coffee (we're neck in neck with Finland for most coffee per capita) and it's super strong. I have learned to make it work by taking lots of milk while my wife and friends take it black.

We all have our vices.
I tend to stop at Starbucks most days, though I pretty much only get regular brewed coffee or iced coffee (I rack up rewards fairly quickly and use those free drinks for the fancy items).
Could I save more money by making it at home? Of course. But, in the grand scheme of things, I no longer smoke, and I rarely drink these days, so buying coffee is my personal indulgence (and of course I spend less on coffee per week than my friends who are going out to the bars several nights a week).

Personally, I tend to make mine at home- it's a big money saver, plus the environmental impact is considerably less- no plastic lids which end up in a landfill, which is also a large reason why I stopped using a Keurig. Not to say that I never stop and pick up an afternoon coffee, but I do try to resist it if I can.

I rarely purchase coffee out now because of the cost but more importantly because of the ease and convenience of always getting a fast and perfect cup from my Keurig.
My go-to brand favorite is Newman's Own medium roast. With a savvy shoppers eye, I can sometimes get the pods for as low as .50 which makes me very happy.
Recently I had fun shopping and purchasing a few thermal coffee-to-go containers from Amazon. This came after I made the mistake of purchasing a $45 stainless steel to-go commuter cup directly from Keurig.com only to find that I despise drinking out of stainless steel.
Hacking Theater's article showing the math calculations prompted me to consider how much I am saving now by brown-bagging it. Working in NYC, the avg lunch is 8.00 to 12.00 so I'll err using a conservative $9.00 avg.
$9 x 5 days= $45 x 50 weeks = $2,250 a year
A sandwich from home with a piece of fruit and a bottle of water is $3.00 ( same for a lean cuisine etc)
$3 x 5 days= $15 x 50 weeks = $750 a year.
$2250- 750 = $1500 savings that will allow me to see at least 10-15 more Broadway shows per year!!

Yeah, their rewards program is pretty great, and I like that the rewards take a while to expire, too.

I brew Pilon at home during the Winter but like to get iced coffee during the Summer. In fact I like it all year long and buy it at least once a day when I am on the go. This week 7 Eleven is offering free hot coffee all week long and it is really awesome.
I bought a 10 oz can of Pilon for $3.00 yesterday and it usually lasts over a month. I pay that for one coffee at Starbucks. Crazy!

Cafe Bustelo and Cafe Pilon are my go-to coffees! I like it hot, black and strong...just like my men! I also brew it with this:

I bought the Dunkin Donuts dark Roast and thought is was pretty smooth. Their Pumpkin Spice blend was not bad either.

Here in the UK we have the ubiquitous Starbucks, Costas and Caffe Nero and I am a massive quality coffee addict and my favourite is Caffe Nero, which is actually owned by an American.
i here they have moved into the US and curtain they have shops in the Boston area and here they are going to expand into New York. Anyone heard of them?

I've been to Costa and Caffe Nero in London; I hadn't heard they were in the US yet. But Boston has Wagamama and NYC doesn't; DC/Virginia has Nando's and NYC doesn't. I want both!
