It was a little shaky at times, a couple of pitch issues but all in all I thought the tone was very nice. It wasn't very country though. It says it was the Willie Nelson version of the song, but it was decidely more Ray Charles than Willie.
I grew up in GA so I heard this song countless times and my biggest issue would be that I think you oversang it a bit towards the end. It's a very personal and tender song and I think emotion drives the power of it rather than the belting and riffing.
All in all though, very nice tone.

I'm here, but I don't know how vocal I want to get. I'm just trying to lie low until it's done and I can move on with my life
Country + Kitzy = >_<
Welcome, Patronus!
Thanks. I was a little apprehensive to post since I haven't been a part of this, but it's all in fun right?

Fun and mind-numbing agony, yes
Up now! Allie singing "The Lucky One" by Alison Krauss.
Is there something corrupt in WesternSky2's files? I can't get it up upload on Megaupload right now and I've tried 3 times.
MU is usually good about uploading things... I would say to try and zip it first, but...
YAY ALLIE!
That's GSL...the girl who taught me about the wonders of MU and YSI :)
I'll try sending you her file on AIM.
I don't know that song at all so I am at a bit of a disadvantage.
During the chorus it sounds as if the song's natural tendency would be to belt some of those lines more and you were singing them in your head voice. It didn't sound bad at all, just a little soft. If that is how Alison Krauss does it then it shows how little I know.
Otherwise, a very clean voice during the verses - you sounded like you were more comfortable then and took more control of the song.
I'd really like to hear you sing something with more power because it definitely sounds like it's in there.

I agree with Patty - you've been able to get by on the sweet, thin voice and it's worked for you - I hope to see you try something that tests your vocal power next week!
Up now! jrb_actor with "Statue of a Fool"!
Mmm...jrb...I like...
jrb... *swoons* I love your voice.
Yay...I like that you embraced the Country genre Jerby, rather than trying to overcome it!
Akiva
Up now, Rathnait62 singing "Hard Candy Christmas" by Dolly Parton!
JRB:
I felt like I was back at home on Saturday nights when I was growing up when my parents would have friends over and play loud country music.
I gotta say, Ricky Van Shelton was an inspired choice, JRB.
Very nice control of the song. You went a tad flat here and there, but you recovered quickly by making up for it with a little emotion and stayed true to original, no riffing, very strong when you needed to be and pulled back when the song called for it.
Very nice.

What does a "hard candy Christmas" mean anyway?
Good song choice Rath! I love me some Dolly.
Very sweet voice and I like the tone and obvious training of your. You kept the song under control. I just had it in my head that you'd be doing some really sassy. I'd like to have heard some Reba from you!
I've always thought it was akin to bittersweet--that instead of toys, you get hard candy. But at least it's not coal. I dunno. I could be off my rocker.
God Tiff I just noticed your new Signature.. You are truely sick and twisted..
