According to the chairman of the privately owned company: “We won’t include gays in our ads, because we like the traditional family. If gays don’t like it, they can always eat another brand of pasta."
I'm going to take him up on that.
Of course, he later issued an "apology," which indicates that he's not a bigot; he just thinks women need to do the cooking:
“With reference to statements made yesterday, I apologize if my words have generated controversy or misunderstanding, or if they have hurt the sensibilities of some people. In the interview I simply wanted to highlight the central role of the woman in the family.”

In some families, women should take the central roles. My lesbian step-sister wholeheartedly approves

"If the gays don't like it..."
It's not just the gays that don't like it.
Dammit! I am right in the middle of a box of Barilla Protein Plus Farfalle at the moment. Pretty soon we aren't going to be able to eat anything.
So sad being I would only buy Barilla. I guess it's back to my family's choice...Ronzoni.
Not for this straight person.
I'm happy to see that similar posts on Facebook are getting lots of support from straight folks as well.
Not a real smart business man is Guido? I'm sure he will lose many loyal customers like me.
Whenever these CEO's or anyone who represents a company speaks out with such hateful speech I am always amazed. If he feels that way personally, fine. However, he is speaking for the brand. The entire company. If I were a shareholder in this company I would be livid. Wonder how the companies stock will do after this comment. More than likely, after he said this he was FORCED to make an apology. If he said it I doubt he is sorry or in real life shows any remorse. Hate is never good for business and I'm sure the Hateful So Called Christians and anti gay people will embrace this. I would imagine in the long run though this is going to cost them some business and money. Not smart. Not smart at all.

Any decent gay makes his own pasta!
According to "The Independent," he had some other thoughts to share:
"But then the pasta magnate upped the ante by attacking gay adoption. 'I have no respect for adoption by gay families because this concerns a person who is not able to choose,' he said."

Barilla is the only pasta I've bought over the past few years because of the guy in this commercial. I still don't know if I've ever seen anyone more beautiful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6Ujrz2Xe_A So, it's too bad I have to change. Sigh.
So many of their models have been exceptionally gorgeous men. Ironically, often they were the ones making the pasta.

Bye Bye Barilla -- the pasta for bigots.
I can't decide if I should use what I've got left, or donate it to some food kitchen or something. I can't toss it, as I just hate wasting food.
Finishing the box isn't giving the company any more money than you already have.
A good alternative - Colavita pasta. Cheap, and it tastes good.

How long before one of BWW's stunt trolls accuses people of being intolerant by not buying this pasta? How long before Mike Huxkabee encourages a Barilla Day where unevolved people are encouraged to buy this stuff? How long, I ask you,how long?
I also used Barilla.
Oh well, Muellers just picked up another customer.
I sort of love how he responded to claims of bigotry by being sexist.

I'll have to contact Costco about their ongoing support of a bigoted manufacturer. But I imagine others already have...
Kad, right?!
Roscoe, a straight colleague in my office said the same thing. She says it's the only brand they carry, and that she was going to write to them.

It has been noted on Costco's facebook page.
I think Barilla is going to be very sorry about this...
Ditto.

I wonder if Barilla is privately held. If not, he should be fired no questions asked.

According to Wikipedia it is privately held. So, he only has to answer to his family!
