Yay for another good day in Baseball for all of you, boo for the Bravos lack of any offense at all.
Maybe the Yankees are about to make a run.
AL MVP: Manny has been being Manny, so I think that will hurt him, along with shoddy d and lower batting average. Texiera, has the low batting average. I agree about the Yanks, they have little chance mainly because they are Yankees, although Giambi may get comeback player of the year. A-Rod certainly has equalled the production of Vlad, and both are strong but I think Ortiz will take it. They will want to give it to Sox player as a reward for last year and Ortiz would be perfect for that. I don't think he deserves it as much, but I think he'll get it.
NL MVP: Well Andruw has the league lead in homers, and is finally hitting the high fastball, as well as playing his phenomenal defense in center, but his .275 BA just won't cut it. If the Cubbies were a little better I think Derrek Lee would be strong competetion, and if he closes as the triple crown winner, or a double crowner he has a shot. Albert Pujols has got to be the front runner though, best player on a very strong team along with all the love the press has given him forever. Also he is top five in all the major categories. I'll say Pujols.
AL Cy: Mark Buehrle. I think it won't be very close. (I never would have spelled it right if you hadn't already)
NL Cy: I think it will be Clemens in a close one with Carpenter, the writers just don't have the creativity to put another name on the ballot with a certain hall of famer doing what he has at his age. Dontrelle and Oswalt and maybe even Smoltzie (if he can get any run support) are all in the running if the other two slip.

Ooh, I forgot about Ortiz. Hm. But if writers really favored players on the championship team so much, Jeter would have won in 1999. Except he's a Yankee, and Yankees aren't allowed to win the major awards anymore unless they're named Roger Clemens. Crap. Circular logic.

Pedro should have a chance, but he doesn't, he has no buzz. I think all of the other guys would have to fall apart for him to get it.

It was an exciting game. Great seeing Jeter hit a home run and amazing to watch Matsui perform so consistently.

I'm as amazed as you- the Yankees' raggedy excuse for a pitching staff and the Rangers' very good lineup didn't promise to make a good combination.

Anyone watching Astros-Pirates? Clemens threw only 88 pitches through 8 shutout innings, but got 0 runs of support. Lidge came in for the 9th and has given up 1 run so far. Unbelievable. Clemens absolutely should have finished that game- 9 strikeouts, no walks, and only 2 hits allowed? And you take him out? Cripes.

Seven hour family day at Wrigley included 4 buses, one car and a taxi.
We left our house at about 10:45 – for a 12:20 game and arrived on Clark Street by 11:15 and had lunch at Goose Island. During lunch the rain started and it was a monsoon. We waited in the restaurant and ventured out to buy a few souvenirs. It rained more and we were wet, so I convinced the “hold out” (oldest daughter) that maybe it was not our day to see the Cubs.
We were on the bus no longer than ten minutes when the rain stopped and by the time we were back home it was clear.
After seeing that the game would commence at 3:00 – the youngest and oldest rally to return. The middle child lay on the couch whining that she is tired. After much convincing we jumped in the car and made it back to Wrigley by the end of the second inning.
Save Ramirez HR, the Cubs bats were lifeless and lost to the annoying Cardinals. The kids were excellent at the game and were amused by the drunkards that had been at Wrigley for 6 hours.
We were home by 5:45.

Ah, you guys were up against Chris Carpenter, so don't feel too bad. He's one of the top 2 pitchers in the NL this year. The other...well, I said what happened to him tonight in the previous post.
Sad Roger Clemens Fact #67: Guess who was the most productive part of the Astros' lineup today? Yup, it was Clemens. He had 2 hits and one hit-by-pitch to get on base in all 3 of his plate appearances. No one else in the Houston lineup had more than 1 hit or got on base more than twice. Niiiice.

Penguin - Cubs are up and it is a big night for me. I really hate the Cardinals, not the people but the team. I also love the birds.
But, Prior has a lead and Wood just in relief took out the first three in the botton of the seventh.

Good day for both our teams, then. :) Seriously, the Yankees' pasting of the Rangers was the only bright point in my day, which otherwise consisted of being sick, nearly fainting from heat exhaustion while waiting for a combination of one late bus and two late subway trains, and missing out on my show because I got there late. Urgh.
