It looks like Leiter and Small will both be in the rotation because of Mussina's tendonitis, but back when he had a choice, I couldn't believe Torre put Small in the bullpen and kept Leiter as a starter.

Ugh! I had some friggin floor meeting, so I had to pass on $5 tix to go to the Yankees game! Ugh! Tampa Bay in a come from behind win. *sigh*

Tampa Bay magically becomes the 1998 Yankees whenever they play New York. It's pathetic, and the Yanks could very well lose their playoff chances over it.

Aren't Lee and Pujols still better, hitting-wise? Then again, they don't contribute as much defensively. I'm too lazy to look into the details, but this is an interesting race.
Barring something drastic happening to Carpenter, I think he has the NL Cy all tied up. Clemens was just too screwed over by his run support to have a chance, and the hammy injury was the final blow.

I was there tonight. Just sold my tickets for tomorrow and Thursday. Next games for me are Sept 23 and 25, last weekend at home for the Yankees. And then hopefully (if they get there), I'll be at playoff games as it comes with my season tickets.

I think east coast evening games start at 2am London time. I'm so screwed when the playoffs start.

His average is still in the .270s but with his HR totals and RBI starting to lap the others he has a much better chance. Not to mention his defense is really worth at least a run a game. I have gotten so used to it I forget, but he takes away two or three hits every single game.
45 HR is 6 more than Lee, 114 RBI is 10 more than Pujols.
I think it is close and I didn't before.

Seriously, though, take a moment to marvel at the sheer awfulness of Clemens' run support this year. It's mind-blowing. I think that the Astros have been shut out in 16 games, 8 of them when Clemens pitched. Unbe-friggin-lievable.

I would say poor guy, but he's a millionaire who's on a team with one of his best friends and allowed to skip road trips. :) Still...that's really misfortune on an epic scale. You'd think he was pitching in the deadball era.

Eeee, I think I'm going to Friday's game! David Wells vs. Aaron Small provides a nice villian/hero combination, plus I've never been to a Yankees/Red Sox game. Oooh, this is going to be good.
