Best Christmas Albums.

I'm looking for good christmas albums to play in a shop, keeping in mind I have a fairly healthy cynicism, are there any suggestions? I have the John Waters Christmas, and I can even come at the Ella Christmas Album. Are there any others that won't rot my molars?

Vince Gauraldi goes great with Ella and the Frank Sinatra Capitol CD- put those three on shuffle and I'm happy till January.

1. Lena Horne's "Merry"
2. Maureen McGovern's Christmas
3. Barbra's first Xmas Album [the second one is not very good]
4. You could find Judy's Xmas special on DVD and burn it onto a CD for some real loopy fun
5. Josh Groban's "Noel" CD is pretty good

I'm tracking down Maureen McGovern's album right away. And I have the Judy special on dvd- that's a hilarious idea!

trust me, you'll love this one. It's 3 cds of Christmas cheer. I play it every year nonstop. And it's only $19.99 at amazon.

Bette's Cool Yule is great - and sad to say, Pottery Barn has wonderful holiday CD's every year. Last year they came out with a three CD compilation that was just fantastic.

Sufjan Stevens' Xmas album is sooo different...and it's a five-disc set.

Did Pearl Bailey ever do a complete x-mas album? I've got a compilation with her doing "Jingle Bells cha-cha".

The Groban CD is nice although it certainly is Christmas light. James Taylor did a fabulous Christmas CD a couple of years ago, but it was distributed through (of all things) Hallmark and was quite hard to find. He may have re-distributed it since. His is the only version of "I wish I had a river" that I can stand. But I am a great fan of everything he does.

Taz you have excellent taste! That collection selects primo tracks from Capitol Records Christmas albums (many of them one-hit wonders or No-hit wonders) that had been forgotten for years before they started the Ultra-Lounge line. DO you have the non-Christmas CDs too? Quite amusing.

The Phil Spector album is the best! The Ronettes, Darlene Love, The Crystals. You can't go wrong!

I have several of them Joe. I adore them. And the packaging is fab. The "best of" comes in a case covered in faux leopard fur.
So cute.

I have all the Tchotckes issued around this series- including a very special Leopard Print Santa Hat that was a give-away with the first Xmas album.

Cyndi Lauper's "MERRY CHRISTMAS...and have a nice life." is the THE BEST HOLIDAY ALBUM...EVUH!!!!

It has soulful sounds, punched up rumbas, and creole takes on holiday classics.

There's so many, but I really like Chris Isaak's Christmas album.

Most nostalgic: John Denver and the Muppets. I wore that LP OUT.

There's always Sarah McLachlan's, which is more melancholy than cheery.

Ella's is def great.

Stevie Wonder's would prob work for you.

You may even like Jewel's.

But, if the spirit grabs you:

Charlie Brown
The Carpenters' (there's a fantastic 2 disc one out that's both albums)
Barbra's (I like both, but the first is sublime)
Frank Sinatra's
Bing Crosby's White Christmas
Doc Severinsen's
Mariah Carey's
John Denver and the Muppets

And for something nasty and trashy and wicked--RuPaul's Ho Ho Ho
